House burned July 4th

Fireworks can do that. Many many moons ago I was visiting some folks in PA and went over to a friend from college's house who lived nearby. The house was a bit odd with lots of additions built on and some weird valleys in the roof. I happened to look out a bathroom window and saw a bunch of leaves on the roof starting to go up. Went out and told them and they didn't believe me at first, after all dad was an engineer and knew how to set off fireworks. I was all okay since it ain't my house and a couple minutes later they were like a clown car trying to get up there to put that thing out.
I was acquainted with a fire fighter in my youth and he advised me to keep a 5 gal. bucket of water next to where we lit fireworks off. Immediately following the use of each firework, we dipped them in the bucket of water. Good advice.

For our house, no electricity at all. Cold water is working
One refrigerator in the kitchen is now running on solar panels. The refrigerator in the garage was not harmed, but no electricity, that lost the food inside. The electrical service to the house was destroyed. My son went back, but can't stay inside the house
Fire department claims it can take 6 months to be restored. Looks like the roof must be replaced as the fire damaged the rafters.
Ask a local spark for a temp service Rob

You are from the Boise Idaho region?
Hope that all gets worked out quickly and back to normal, and most of all, your kids who allowed all this to happen to pay for it all.

Next 4th, invite my kids; they have better sense. :smoke:

By the way I didn't see the kids and the adults with them since I was sleeping, but I told my son yesterday, he saw them doing it and he should have made sure the garbage cans were.moved.

how much water damage Rob?

I don't know. Neighbors helped mop the floors. I saw small amounts on the living room floor, most are conceiled from what I am aware of.

The restoration company will know. They have tools that probe the wood and measure the moisture content. Anything that is excessive is either dried out or replaced.

Thank you great people
Two careless parents not closely watching the kids who dumped their fireworks into the trash can against the house. My son told them to put it against the fence so he gets blame as well.
I am 320 miles from that house.
I can sense kids and grandkids having a never-ending list of chores to do every time they come around, once you get back home.

Hopefully insurance will do you right and get things rolling very soon.
