The fire near Northport (Hope fire) is now at 3K acres--largest fire in WA. jackflash
Folks up in your area, down here also(farmers/country folks) are really responsible common sense folks. Those fires up closer to the U.S./Canadian border areas have always seemed mighty suspicious to me. Activists can strike anywhere for sure. I'll stay in touch with U!

That 2K fire has spread to 3200 acres!!! That entire area around the Hope Fire is loaded with conifer trees & HEAVY underbrush, like even if the conifer trees are wet those pine/fir needles & bark will still burn like tall incendiary torches. The below link says the hope fire is currently within15 miles of Kettle Falls. The good news is that the fire is on the west side of the Columbia river. The bad news is that the Columbia river is only about 900 feet wide in that area. Again, the good news is the wind is travelling N/W @ CURRENT.

That area is so rugged like all mountains/hills & VALLEYS & those valleys is where the winds speed up. The fires in all those valleys create those heat induced fast travelling winds & even fire tornadoes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Sure hope it's not another incident of another "activist kook fire", like the west plains fire(Gray Fire) that came close to burning the town of Medical Lake & it's surrounding community. Below a recent activist kook;

5 years ago, mentally deranged activist or just a lunatic?

Yeah, I live in this general area--no threat of fire spreading to me, but still too close for comfort. As for the loon---it sounds like there are a couple of fire bugs loose around Spokane right now.

Have you heard about the 2K acre fire near Northport? Photos on the news last night were pretty scary. Level 3 evacs.
CA, it's starting AGAIN just like it always does. Now it's the Carp lake fire, blue sky/light cumulus clouds. No storm & no lightning. Activists get enough fires started & the fire crews get swamped. Folks in this entire area know about the dangers of wild fires & are always aware of not accidently starting one. If another wild fire starts in our general area especially under blue sky's & mild conditions within the next 48 hours I would say that would then be a strong indicator of nefarious activity. 1500 acres up in flame in barely 3.5 hours!

Thank you great people
Two careless parents not closely watching the kids who dumped their fireworks into the trash can against the house. My son told them to put it against the fence so he gets blame as well.
I am 320 miles from that house.

You are from the Boise Idaho region?
Hope that all gets worked out quickly and back to normal, and most of all, your kids who allowed all this to happen to pay for it all.

Next 4th, invite my kids; they have better sense. :smoke:

It was that bad at our house, only It went up the side catching the electric service on fire.
I will try to post some photos.

Meridian, Idaho is flat land neighborhoods modern homes. Part is still farm land

It was a tract home.

WOW, like talk about a freak/unfortunate accident. I truly feel for U & your family in your time of distress. I am located in Washington state just north of Spokane about 30 miles. Wild fires in our overall general area(including the Idaho panhandle) are of major concern for us locals, like we are currently in the start of the fire season so we are glued to the wild fire maps. As the site below illustrates so well there is never a shortage of fires in the good ole northwest for sure!

Are U east or west of the mountains?
In Idaho, South, In Oregon east of mountains, I suppose.

Photo where fire started.

Sorry photo came from the clipboard.

I moved to Oregon, with family.
I am at my daughter's home , until repairs are concluded.
Using my cell phone isn't pleasant
Trying to get my powerful computer working again.
We were woken up by a passing person who alerted us that the house was on fire.
Cause of fire was fireworks put in garbage can. My sons kids blew $400 of fireworks, and tossed some into a trash can sitting against the wall of the house.
Sure has messed up our lives. I will not post as often until my main computer problem is solved. The system is demanding a password it has never asked for in the past. The smart TV is now shohowwing TV and prime movies, so part of the system is OK.
Oh, how very AWFUL!!!! I can't imagine that happening to one of our own and I will miss reading your posts Robert W. The stress you are under must be hard to manage. Thank goodness for your loving daughter, also. Stress all the way around as you unplug from so many different accounts. I would be freaking! I'll keep you and your family in my prayers at night. This nightmare is going to take a long time to return to normalcy for all of you. I'm so very, very sorry. 🪷

Thanks for your support. I hope that the work to rebuild the very wonderful home moves quickly

15th post
I feel your pain....Just a smallish kitchen fire and I'm near four months into the restoration. At least my home was livable.

Oh well, it got me off the dime as far a home renovations I needed to do. New paint, flooring, windows/doors, and a new deck so I'll be GTG till my dirt nap. ;)
For our house, no electricity at all. Cold water is working
One refrigerator in the kitchen is now running on solar panels. The refrigerator in the garage was not harmed, but no electricity, that lost the food inside. The electrical service to the house was destroyed. My son went back, but can't stay inside the house
Fire department claims it can take 6 months to be restored. Looks like the roof must be replaced as the fire damaged the rafters.

The only advice I can give is to hire a good local contractor....Just on my restoration the 101 little things that can go wrong are handled by him.

Hell, I'd already be in jail if I had to deal with it. :laughing0301:

Example, they sent two pallets of plank flooring in....One pallet was the wrong color! Shit like that can drive you nuts and turn a three day job into a one week job.

I will try to post some photos.

Let me guess:
  1. The kids were setting off some of those innocent-looking ground effects fountain cones. They stay very hot inside even after the fountain is over.
  2. They threw the expired fireworks into an open trash can alongside and up against your house.
  3. After everyone had left, a cinder or ember still glowing inside the cones caught some of the trash in the can on fire.
  4. The fire then ignited materials on the outside of the house traveling up to and affecting the electric service.
If that is close, then count yourself lucky. The power company should be able to replace the drop to the house fairly quickly and the service line into the house to your breaker box can be replaced by an electrician.

Fireworks can do that. Many many moons ago I was visiting some folks in PA and went over to a friend from college's house who lived nearby. The house was a bit odd with lots of additions built on and some weird valleys in the roof. I happened to look out a bathroom window and saw a bunch of leaves on the roof starting to go up. Went out and told them and they didn't believe me at first, after all dad was an engineer and knew how to set off fireworks. I was all okay since it ain't my house and a couple minutes later they were like a clown car trying to get up there to put that thing out.
