A Texas law aimed at restricting abortions, which took effect in 2013, has led to more women trying to end a pregnancy on their own, while the number of clinical procedures in the state has declined, according to a study released on Tuesday.

The study showed that poor women bear the brunt of the law.

"Poverty, limited resources, and local facility closures limited women's ability to obtain abortion care in a clinic setting and were key factors in deciding to attempt abortion self-induction," the Texas Policy Evaluation Project found.

The study estimated that between 100,000 and 240,000 women aged 18 to 49 in Texas have tried to self-induce abortion since the law went into effect, using such methods as herbs, teas and medications obtained in Mexico without prescription.

Researchers from the University of Texas Population Research Center, Ibis Reproductive Health, the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and the University of California at San Francisco conducted the study.

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed this month to hear a challenge by abortion providers to portions of the Republican-backed law that they contend are aimed at shutting clinics that offer the procedure.

"This important new research paints an alarming picture of what the future may be like for women across the country if the Supreme Court does not block this cruel law," Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement on Tuesday."

My reponse to all those poor, loose women who want to use abortion as birth control:

Takes a man penis to cause pregnancy, and all men who impregnate a women should have their dicks removed because they had sex without a condom. I think men should be the ones held responsible to impregnating a women.
You're an idiot. Unless it's rape, it takes two to create an unplanned pregnancy.

Cut off your own dick.

Oh wait....you already did, shortly before changing your name to Penelope.

I've always been a female. I have a low opinion of men who do not take responsibility.
I have a low opinion of "women" who do not take responsibility.

FYI, believing all your life that you're a man trapped in a woman's body doesn't mean you were always female.

So to address this article's bullshit stats.

STATE-LEVEL DATA (Texas)
Total Abortions (2014): 54,902
The Texas Department of State Health Services reports that 54,902 abortions took place in Texas during 2014.

Total Abortions (2013): 63,849
The Texas Department of State Health Services reports that 63,849 abortions took place in Texas during 2013.

So they're saying that women are having more abortions annually now that the law has taken effect...than they did when there were more clinics open. Yep, I'd say it's bullshit.
The article didn't say more women were having abortions annually. Actually they said, while the number of clinical procedures in the state has declined , the number of "home abortion" attempts have risen.
The stats they provided say they're having more abortions now that the law has taken effect though, I posted the number of abortions prior to for the two years prior.
I couldn't find those stats in the article. Where were they?
Go back to the OP. Its amazing you can't find those stats when you just said earlier that the stats were reasonable. Dementia?
I read it. I went to the actual organization's site and read their information. I couldn't find a stat saying there are more abortions being performed. What I see in your post is that in 2013 63,849 abortions were performed in Texas. In 2014, 54,902 abortions were performed. That's 9,000 less, according to my math.
What I find reasonable is ... well, if you can't subtract, I suppose you can't read, either, so I give up.
He is adding the 100,000 to 240,000 attempted unassisted abortions to the 54,902 official abortions for 2014. That may not be correct, but if there were a decrease of only approximately 9,000 abortions per year, how does that explain the hundred of thousands of attempted unassisted abortions. In other words, the numbers don't make sense.

Okay. In order to make their point, they would have to say how many were estimated to be performed prior to the law taking effect. I get that now.

easier, safer, private, less expensive.............. good.

If you do the cycle twice, and did not abort, then a clinic should be used.

I'd rather women know what to do before hand to prevent or within the first week or two without going to the pharmacy as a first option. Then try a home abortion up to the 70th day.

an egg is not a chicken. Most animals and birds do not survive beyond the first few days. Some animals eat or kill their own young.

Why shouldn't a woman wait till she is ready before having a child she can love and care for with all her heart?

A child that is not full loved will suffer so how is that right? A woman unable or ill prepared for a child will not always be a good parent, or the right parent. Someone too young or too old risks giving birth to a child with health or developmental problems. In the wild, weak, ill and too old fall prey to other animals. Humans to day have few pray and can overcome and prolong life that would other wise naturally maintain a balanced population.

Children should come into the world with love, not because of some accident, rape, or that risks the woman's life and leave the child orphaned.

Children are a joy, at the right time.

The woman has decide when she is ready.

I'm not a fan of clinical abortion except as a last resort. I'd rather women knew more about prevention and inducing a miscarriage at home with natural foods, herbs and teas.

I'd rather see all children in need of a family be adopted. I do not see a need to force women to give birth if they are not ready to be a loving mother and care for the child.

Oh look all the baby killing talking points, all equally stupid and untrue, in one post.

I've seen too many girls/women pregnant and incapable or care for themselves let alone a fetus to turn or a child afterwards.
Child are a joy, at the right time. Far too many end up in poverty and can't pay for childcare, which in many cases cost more then the woman earn, or they end up at home on welfare.
We no longer have the close family support ti help raise children in a vibrant household that we used to.
Women have other dreams and ambitions they want to achieve before children.
For some women the risk of carrying and childbirth is just too high.

Woman have forgotten to teach their children the natural ways of preventing or aborting that have been passed down for millennia. Ways do doctor or stranger can interfere with or prevent from being used.
We have over the counter and online order of home abortions that are legal and easily available.
What a woman choice is her private decision and her right to her life liberty and happiness for herself and her body. Till fetus is minimally 7 months and potentially viable or born it is not a separate individual with it's own rights, but part of the woman's body and what she does to care for more no, or terminate, is only up to her. You can giver her information on how to care for herself and her fetus, but you cannot make her. Even pregnant she has a right to refuse medical care and engage in dangerous activity. She has a right to eat and drink what she wants. She has a right to live her life as she likes.

She can be educated on options at a clinic if she is willing to carry the fetus but does not want to raise it. Remove the clinics and birth control, cancer screening and education are less accessible and more costly, even with insurance, and for insurance groups. Tax payers do not pay for abortions, have not for decades, except in case of rape. Insurance only pays in the case of the woman's life.

Clinics were opened to save the women from butchers in back streets and to give the woman options and prenatal care. Now some want to close clinics. Home abortions will of course increase and avoid the abuse of people outside the clinics, or the invasion of their privacy.

I would far rather preventing pregnancies, but nothing will stop a woman intent on getting an abortion, one way or the other. We now know that day after pill at the pharmacy can be used even in the third month.

The choice of abortion is a hard one and either way a woman should have people she can turn to for information and moral support while she makes the decision.

I've been to places where women who are raped are killed or forced to marry their rapist. Women who are not married and are become pregnant are executed or killed by family. I seen woman raped during war time and brutally abused. I've seen kids far too young to carry and give birth become pregnant because of rape or incest. I've seen too many die during childbirth. I've seen infants killed because they were malformed or too weak, or even the wrong sex.

No, I would rather see a woman make the choice of controlling her own body and life instead.

I also know some of what those woman have gone through and understand why some choices are better than others.

No child should be unloved, but every woman should be fully ready to give any child she does have her time, and heart and be ready to commit her life to that child, even when they are grown and have children of their own.

Having a child should not be forced on her. It should be something she wants with all her heart.

You (family, friends or strangers) cannot dictate or live someone else's life. You cannot impose your morality or religion on people who do not feel the same or believe in a faith that permits abortion.

A woman's body and life is her's alone.

If you object to abortion of any kind, don't have one.

What next? Prosecute a woman for a miscarriage, which can naturally happen at any stage of pregnancy? How do you intend to dictate what happens in the privacy of her home? She might trip and fall, you going to blame her or condemn her for not being more care care and charge her with murder for an accident? She can do everything right and might still loose it, or her own life during childbirth, or both.

No you cannot stop abortions, nor should you be allowed to. You live your life and let others make their own decisions, right or wrong. You will drive more women to suicide if you try or her death by her trying to get an unsafe abortion. Then you become responsible for the loss of her life and you are the criminal, at least morally.

Help the women in any way possible, but the final decision will have to be her's, so will her life afterwards.

You want to breed life, become a farmer or rancher, raise a pet. You cannot control women their whole lives, it is "their" life.

I would like more options for women who do become pregnant, higher pay, better jobs, more affordable child care, better health care, more housing options. You have to also consider there are places where you have to sign a two year lease and no children allowed. Give women legal options or more affordable housing where children are allowed. Even some work places do not permit a woman to be pregnant and stay in her position or eligible for a promotion. Some athlete might be replaced or have to take time off work. Some careers like acting might have to replace her or shut down at great expense and put many out of work during a pregnancy. Women in the military might have to be taken out of combat because of pregnancy.... and people might be killed because she was not there to save their lives. Doctors, pilots, firefighters, police.... can be work in the latter part of their pregnancy. Many woman cannot afford to be out of work even a few months, let alone before their due date and for a few weeks afterwards.

Why a woman makes a choice can be a million reason. She has to consider how a pregnancy will change her life and if she can or is willing to accept all the consequences.

Some woman are simple not suited or ill equipped to ever be a parent and not willing or able to care for herself during a pregnancy.

I doubt any decision to terminate/abort is ever easy, for some the choice is very difficult. She has to decide what she will do with her life.

You can't know why unless you know her very well and her circumstances. You can't make choices for her or help her without involving yourself in her life and can empathize with her and how she sees her life and future. You can't know her choices without understanding her past.

You can't tell a stranger what to do or how to live her life. Most of the time you can't even tell a child or family member.

No, you can't control a woman's right over her body, even under the best, ideal, circumstances. You cannot force a woman to risk her life to carry and give birth. You cannot force a woman to love a fetus or child.

How many more go unreported. Home abortions have no records. A woman can take a home pregnancy test and buy the ingredients or purchase the pills over the counter for a home abortion. No one beside her ever will know.
to order online, an ultrasound is needed to determine the number of weeks so she can get the right dose. She might order the pills and it is up to her if she chooses to take them or not.

A husband, a parent, a room mate, a friend might never know.

I have a low opinion of men to won't accept responsibility or are bad fathers.
I have a low opinion of men who need to get a woman drunk or drugged to get to have sex.
I have a low opinion of men who abuse their wives and children or can't hold down a job due to their own behavior of lack of caring.

I've also know women who due to some accident or illness of a spouse, parent or child have had an abortion so they can devote their time and energy to nursing for the loved on. I've also know women who create a child for the sole purpose of it being a biological match to save a previous child, not because they want and love another child so much at that time in their life.

I've seen circumstances where a parent needs to choose which life of their children to save or to terminate just one fetus.

In places like syria, parents have had to eat their own children to survive. Children have asked to be killed because they don't want to live or are starving and in so much pain. Women who don't know if they will survive or save themselves let lone carry, care for themselves during pregnancy, give birth or care for a child after during war or as a refugee from war. Circumstances where without a parent the child will surely die and the parent with a child both will die. Life is full of choices, some are extremely hard to make.

Till you know and understand the person's life, you cannot judge the choices they make.

A woman's right to her own body and her privacy are both constitutionally protected.

Abortions are legal.

You personally might not consider them moral, but a woman's life and happiness are her's to choose how to live.

You do not get to have a say or judge her choices.

If she accidentally or intentionally eats certain foods, if she accidentally or intentionally take a certain combination of medicines, if she accidentally or intentionally does certain activities and miscarries, not your place to judge.

If she has a home abortion you will likely never know if there are no medical records. If she take a home pregnancy test, you will never know that she was ever pregnant.

You should never know if she has an abortion in a clinic since her medical records are private. She might go to the doctor for a routine pap smear or for birth control information. She might be there to accompany a friend for any visit or procedure available.

You don't get to know or condemn her or her life choices, especially if you do not personally know her and about her life. Even then

100% bullshit.

Nobody's being asked to eat their children, childbirth complications are now exceptionally rare, and we aren't living in dire circumstances you idiotically described. You Leftist baby butchers always choose extreme and unlikely imagined scenarios to justify abortion on demand where in almost all cases, the child is a mere inconvenience.

Your jumpiness indicates you had an abortion or were involved in one. And like many who had an abortion, you hide your pain and guilt with anger and defensiveness instead of coming to terms with the life you wrongfully ended and seeking forgiveness.

The Pope just announced that now any priest can forgive an abortion and you won't be excommunicated, so you're in luck should you ever decide to do the right thing.

Texas has terrible if not the worst health care in the US. Expect more uninsured people unable to get healthcare,

and you can put that on your conscious. Anyone who voted Pub are going to be guilty.

I suspect the numbers are skewed.

I suspect that the numbers are also related to the decrease in doctors in rural areas as ObamaCare rolls over the supplier networks.
