Heroes and villains of Health reform

Terry Shaivo was front page news for months.

Believe me...if those stories you hear are true.....some lady dying of cancer due to the insurance company not caring would be news from the day it started to the day she died.....

Not to mention...

The ensuing LAWSUIT would be front page as well.

are you this much of a hack? its been all over the news, he came out and told dems that if they don't vote for it, he will not help them in the upcoming elections....

try reading non far leftist sites for once, you might finally learn something

Cool. Since it has been "all over the news", it should be very easy to find a quote from Obama. Please, post one here.

The president will refuse to make fund-raising visits during November elections to any district whose representative has not backed the bill.

A one-night presidential appearance can bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds which would otherwise take months to accumulate through cold-calling by campaign volunteers.

Mr Obama's threat came as the year-long debate over his signature domestic policy entered its final week.

Nice link, Del....where's the quote we asked for buddy?

Caterpillar: Health care bill would cost it $100M
Published on March 19, 2010 7:10 AM | Submit a comment
Dow Jones Newswires | Caterpillar Inc. said the health-care overhaul legislation being considered by the U.S. House would increase the company's health-care costs by more than $100 million in the first year alone.

In a letter Thursday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio, Caterpillar urged lawmakers to vote against the plan "because of the substantial cost burdens it would place on our shareholders, employees and retirees."
Caterpillar, the world's largest construction machinery manufacturer by sales, said it's particularly opposed to provisions in the bill that would expand Medicare taxes and mandate insurance coverage. The legislation would require nearly all companies to provide health insurance for their employees or face large fines.

The Peoria-based company said these provisions would increase its insurance costs by at least 20 percent, or more than $100 million, just in the first year of the health-care overhaul program.

The devil is in the details. The question is WHAT, in particular is going to cost them $100M? Do you have any idea?

My thoughts exactly. If the republicans hadn't insisted on taking the bite out of the penalty for not enrolling, there wouldn't be any problem.

really? we have a penalty for non enrollment in massachusetts and uhc is still driving up budget deficits, and premiums are still going up.

300 million people in the US. 300 million. Think about it. 300 million people in the US and we see on the news things like women beaten by their husbands.....horror stories of girl scout cookie theives and....wives that leave the country with theiur children without their x-husbands permission......and this last one is the kicker and is a most applicable....landlords that cheap out on heat and have burners shut off at 64degrees.....and ALL of those stories are reported to the news by the victims.....

Believe me VaY....if an isnurancee company TRULY let people die, it would be on the news.

The only ones I hear about are those that write letters to the President, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid........

Not ONE seems to be valid enough for the news to report.

300 million people....you dont think there would be ONE NATIONAL STORY of a person that was left to die by the insurance company?

Sorry VaY...I do not simply believe a letter written to a politician.....

But please...continue to believe what you want.

Raw Story Real ‘Norma Rae’ dead of cancer after battle with health insurer
[Sutton] went two months without possible life-saving medications because her insurance wouldn’t cover it, another example of abusing the working poor, she said.

“How in the world can it take so long to find out (whether they would cover the medicine or not) when it could be a matter of life or death,” she said. “It is almost like, in a way, committing murder.”

She eventually received the medication, but the cancer is taking a toll on her strong will and solid frame.

Yep....just as I was saying....300 million people in the US and the best you can come up with is a story of one woman....ONE WOMAN that was a victim of poor administrative procedures...and one that was resolved, albeit, perhaps too late.

Thats my point. Whether a private insurance company or public option or whatever...there will always be something falling through the cracks.....sad, but reality....

But if that is the best you got, then you aint got nothing.

Think Progress Insurance company executive refers to high-cost patients as ‘dogs.’
Legally barred from discriminating against individuals who submit large claims, the New York-based insurer simply canceled lines of coverage altogether in entire states to avoid paying high-cost claims like Mr. Pearl’s. In an e-mail, one Guardian Life Insurance Co. executive called high-cost patients such as Mr. Pearl “dogs” that the company could “get rid of.”

These idiots didnt get the CBO report I guess.

You can still enjoy the deaths of those who died while the republicans fiddled you heartless cons. I know it pains you that more Americans will now live because they were able to get the care they needed to live.

The Reps didnt' fiddle.

Perhaps you forgot there Truth. The Dems had a SUPERMAJORITY. They didn't need or want any Rep help with this clusterfuck of a bill. If they had all been on board then this peice of shit bill would have been passed last year. Obviously they all weren't on board and still aren't 1 yr later.

Jeeze Truth. Get your facts in order.

As for the CBO report. If you believe those projections then you are a fool my friend. How can anyone project something 10yrs in the future?? Crystal ball mayby?? This was only a preliminary projection. The CBO can only crunch the numbers they are given.

MA and TN have Universal HC. They are going broke with it. MA is already yelling for the Fed, i.e. the taxpayers, to bail them out. Wonder who will bail out the country when this thing bankrupts us.

You just carry on with your pipedream there Truth. Let me know how it works for you when you HC premiums go throught the roof.

LOL OL'BO did say he wanted to spread the wealth. He's well on his way. LOL

That's not what your Golden Boy, Scott Brown said on CNN last night. Are you sure you have updated your talking points?

Thats what I heard on the news there Yank. Mayby you should update yours LOL

Jeez...you are really reaching....

300 million and this is the best you come up with?

You lost this round VaY.....but nice try.

So, help me understand your debating rules. You initially said, I couldn't find ONE news story about how private health insurers have let patients die. I did. Then you said, if ONE was all I got, then I got nothing. So, I posted a second. Now, I have lost the debate? Please explain this to me.

NATIONAL news story of an insurance company that let someone die.....is what I said.

Not some side local rag or on line news source....

I said it would be NATIONAL news...you know....ABC, CBS, or NBC........got any?

DO not put words in my mouth please.

Oh, so LOCAL news reports are NOT news, now? When did THAT rule go into effect?

Are you prolife? Did you support what happened to Terri schiavo? She had healthcare.

I am prochoice and Terri Shiavo was brain dead.

You seem to enjoy the death of people who have the same type of accidents Terri had and cant afford healthcare.

BTW her condition would have been labeled a pre exsisting condition if her husband had lost his healthcare covering her.

The validity of a story offered by an on line rag is never scrutinized as those on network TV news......and you know this....so nice deflection.....but not at all one that gave your debate credence.

You are disappointing me today VaY....you are resorting to questioning my credibility a lot sooner in the debate than you usually do.

You know....the tactic the loser of a debate uses when they run out of things to say?

Sort of like the other thread....where you opted to respond to my facts with sarcasm of a word I mispelled.

Not on your game today I see....OK I will back off.

Have a nice weekend.

Do you have a link to any story of someone that was broguht into an ER with sever injuries and was tossed out on the street due to lack of helathcare?

Do you have a link to a story showing how someone was admitted with serious injuries, but after a day and realization they had no healthcare, they were escorted out of the hospital?

Once again thinking approval ratings somehow define your accomplishments.
Pelosi has been willing to draw the fire from the right and take the heat in order to pass this legislation. It will go down as a career defining accomplishment.
It was also a career defining accomplishment when Hitler killed millions of Jews. Just because she might get this done doesn't make it a good thing.

Typical of right wing extremist rhetoric

A healthcare plan is the equivalent of rounding up and executing 6 million jews

And you wonder why people don't take you seriously?

Right. Just goes to show that people see what they choose to see. Sometimes, you have to use an extreme example to get the point across.

How bout we use a simpler, less harmful analogy to see if rightwinger can understand. It was a career defining accomplishment for George W Bush when he sent troops into Iraq to eventually capture Saddam Hussein. Good or bad accomplishment on that one rightwinger?
