Here is why Nike did the Kaepernick ad

FYI I think what Kaepernick did was offensive and stupid.

But what I think doesn't change empirical fact.

To many ideologues - and that includes most people here - they want to believe that what they believe is empirical fact.

But it's not.

How much do you personally spend on Nike products annually?

$0

But since I just turned 50, I’m officially an old guy.

Stand Up For What You Believe

I believe I should make a million dollars for lending my image to a company that pays their workers about half a living wage in third world countries. Thanks monions!! CK

But since I just turned 50, I’m officially an old guy.

My kids (14 and 18) love Nike shoes and I have spent literally thousands of dollars on Nike products over the past 18 years.

My older son came to me today and said he is now into Addidas. He said that trying to be political makes Nike not cool...regardless of the side you are on.

Just one persons opinion, but I will literally not be dropping another dime on Nike products.

It’s not the they have Kap in an ad, it’s that they made him out to be some sort of hero. He is not, he is a stupid jackass.

That may very well be, but guess what...……………….Christmas presents, birthday presents, and any other kind of present purchased by us for our children and grandchildren, will now not be Nike. We supply the cash until young people get a job, and for most of us, our cash will not be used for anything that says Nike. Take that to the bank, and cash that check!

Here's the sad truth for old people - you don't really matter to advertisers.

Ad buyers covet the 18-49 demographic.

Particularly the young people.

That's because when people start buying a brand, they stay loyal to a brand over their lifetimes.

And because young people will live longer than old people, they generally have more value to corporate America.
So I guess your theory applies to Levi’s and that is why their market share is so big? So does this apply to McDonald’s, coke, time mag., Kmart, Sears, cars, et al. The world is moving too fast, tradition is a relic, unfortunately, that theory is so yesterday.

Young people matter more to ad buyers than old people.

I agree. Now who is spending the dollars to buy those shoes?
Nike will find out the hard way that all "the young people" did was retweet and click the "like" and "share" button hundreds of times since Kaepernick started this stunt. No way will these # of clicks and retweets by a few anarchists translate into an increase of sales for Nike. It was a stupid idea to base sales projections on slanted social media statistics which are slanted to the left by the algorithms used to fake a trend. Nike will soon find out they ventured into a mine field instead of a data mining operation telling them where the money they are after resides.

Makes sense. Nike is a company that caters to athletic people. Athletic people are young, not typically old

Nike came to prominence in the 1980s. They were a brilliant marketing company.

But they got old and flabby, and were usurped by Under Armor.

So they have to do something dramatic to stop losing share.

Beto O'Rourke explains the whole Kaepernick thing very well.
Beto is running against Ted Cruz in Texas.
And he might just win.

Yes it is an American case to protest injustice. The problem comes when this guy compares Kaepernick to civil rights activists in the 60s. He has nothing to complain about, he has not made any sacrifices, and most importantly he has done nothing to solve the problem he complains about. In fact, he is killing the golden goose and doesn’t even know it. One of my favorite images is a picture of an empty field with the caption, picture of all the nfl players protesting for social justice when the cameras were not turned on. Kaepernick is a fraud who has not moved the needle one bit on the cause he claims to be so dedicated to.

Yes, I am an old fart, that is true. My jeans are usually relaxed fit these days.

Well, I dunno, maybe you should look at Target. Ya don't like that one? Then try the NFL! Oh, ya don't like that one either? Well, then maybe you should try Hollyweird-)

Ya know how your screwed, and I can give you a direct correlation, want to play along, or you want to deny the truth?!?!?!?!?!?!

CORRELATION OF PROOF-----------> Look at the ratings for the precious NFL since this has started. Willing to make excuses and phony reasons? Then try this--------->look at the ratings for college football-) What do you see?

Well, in case you are to lazy to look, let me tell you---------> College football is more popular than EVER. People want to watch football, so we all now watch college. But, the NFL?!?!?!?!?!?! Hehehehehehehehehehehe.

Money talks, and bullshit walks my friend. I have no problem what Levi Strauss, Nike, or the NFL did, or continue to do. I may think it sucks, but this is a free country, and if a business whishes to put itself in a political storm, that is their choice. BUT! Being as this country is free, all of us people WITH money have a choice where we wish to spend. Now I am going to give you 3 guesses where you think we WON'T spend our money, or what we WON'T watch on tv.

See what happened to the charming and delightful Red Hen, lol. That is a microcosm of what you are seeing. And the funny thing is----------------> I do not CARE who is a Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Libertarian, or Marxist. I buy good steaks. I have no idea if the butcher shop I buy them at is any of these, or an independent. It makes NO DIFFERENCE to me. But, if he stands in front of his shop and pisses on the flag, or chases Republicans/Blacks/Muslims/gays/Democrats out of his shop, I won't be buying steaks from him anymore. We call it a civil society, and if you attempt to create chaos in it, your screwed, because according to you people-------->we have all the money, and in all fairness, you are probably closer to correct than you think, lol. Now, guess who isn't getting any of it-)

Maybe it’s cause they knew they’d get a billion dollars of free advertising wh all this press coverage?

Most companies don’t care about anything but themselves and the bottom line .

What Kaepernick did has nothing to do with patriotism, the military, or being a ‘good American.’

To contrive peaceful, lawful protest in to a ‘controversy’ is ridiculous and wrongheaded; protest that had it simply been ignored would have ended long ago.

But by foolishly contriving a non-issue into a ‘controversy’ and seeking to vilify Kaepernick, those hostile to the issue Kaepernick wishes to bring attention to have succeeded only in bringing attention to that very issue.

Nike’s support of Kaepernick is indeed smart business, but it’s as much about politics as profit.

Over the past year more than 500 workers in four factories supplying to Nike, Puma, Asics and VF Corporation were hospitalised. The most serious episode, recorded over three days in November, saw 360 workers collapse. The brands confirmed the incidents, part of a pattern of faintings that has dogged the 600,000-strong mostly female garment workforce for years.

If Nike Is Serious About Oppression Against People of Color, They Should Pay Their Own Workers

AHEAD of the start of the 2018 World Cup in Russia this weekend, campaigners have urged global sportswear manufacturers Adidas and Nike to pay workers at their supplier factories in Asia a fair wage.

The Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) released a report this week which claimed that workers in countries like Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam, where most of these companies’ products are produced, have seen share of the price of a pair of shoes drop by 30 percent between 1995 and 2017.

In the three nations, garment workers’ average salaries are 45 to 65 percent below the so-called “living wage” that would allow them to cover their families’ basic needs, said the global coalition of trade unions, workers and human rights groups.

Much of Adidas’ and Nike’s sportswear is made in Indonesia, where 80 percent of workers in the garment sector are women and some make as little as $102 a month while others do not earn the legal minimum wage, according to the CCC’s report.

Way to stand up for people of color.

NFL ratings have been on the decline for a long time, has nothing to do with this..

More people watch the NFL than college football.

Look, I realize that you guys are all butthurt because the NFL are tellign Trump to stick it...
