How the violent mentally ill can buy guns

Interesting.............................................................................................

Police then quickly searched Hume's home, finding Janet Hume's body in a bedroom, the affidavit said.

While Hume's lawyer declined to be interviewed, the inventory of items seized from the home in relation to the case tells a gruesome story.

In addition to the handgun and three rifles, police also removed a Whirlpool freezer, a reciprocating saw and a serrated kitchen knife, according to the inventory, filed with the search warrant. They also seized a pair of blood-splattered safety glasses and a white plastic trash bag containing women's clothing that was "cut up/stained," the document said.

Authorities found parts of Janet Hume's body inside the freezer, along with the body of a house cat, the district attorney told the Oklahoman newspaper.

did he shoot his mother?

The Repubs want to protect the rights of the mentally ill to buy guns. Unless they commit a crime, there is no reason to deny them their 2nd Amendment rights!

Sickening.

It's difficult when a schizophrenic is on medication to 'tell' he is a schizophrenic.

Many Schizo's go off their meds because they feel/think they are OK, which they are, while on meds.

Check out the movie A Beautiful Mind.

Liar! We don't want felons or crazies to possess guns. It's relatively easy to find arrest records in a back ground check, but unless a person has been determined insane by a court, there is no public record. How do you fix that while respecting a patient's privacy?

If someone has been diagnosed with depression, or is seeing a counselor, or on medication for a mental illness, they shouldn't be allowed to purchase a gun.

You may be right, I think it would depend on the degree of impairment. The difficulty is that any assessment would be subjective. I really don't see how, other than a court hearing in each and every case, a fair judgment could be made.
Perhaps if we applied the same standards to voting? Really! do you want potential mass murders voting? Should a guy who's depression is well managed with a pharmaceutical be denied his rights?

So you are against medical/health privacy.

I don't know why anyone would be, but perhaps you can explain.

that isn't true at all. no one wants guns in the hands of people who would use them for ill intent. that is part of the anti gun movements spin. but when you start taking away someones rights based on a decision of are they fit, what else do you start to deny? their right to vote? free speech? where does it end. and if you categorized someone as not being mentally stable do you allow them out in society? they don't need a gun to kill. so what are the parameters around a decision to deny someone?
