Look at Nixon. Ford pardoned him even though there was no trial.
Remember Iran/Contra? Look at the list of presidential pardons below: The biggest fish, Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, again was pardoned before he was tried.

Now, Trump has made a mockery of the presidential pardon, for example, by pardoning his early ardent supporter, former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, prior to sentencing and without any statement of contrition.
Other countries actually practice what we preach.
For example, South Korea sentenced ex-president Park Geun-hye's to over twenty years in prison for corruption and abuse of power..
The decision by the Seoul High Court means the former head of state, who was ousted after a sprawling corruption scandal triggered mass protests, faces 25 years in jail.
Now, given the sheer breadth and scope of Trump's lifelong mendacity, if and when it's revealed that Trump has engaged in a pattern of illegal activity through his organization and his foundation, Trump SHOULD by tried, convicted and sentenced to a long stretch in prison (along with both of his sons), but I doubt it will ever happen, regardless of what crimes are eventually discovered.

No, he wasn't. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself exactly why that was the case? The short and simple answer is that he resigned. But ask yourself WHY did Nixon resign. It was a twofold reason. First of all, he understood that it was unlikely that he would prevail. But more importantly, despite all of his faults, I don't believe he wanted to put our country through a long drawn out drama that would essentially tear this country apart.
You know what? I don't think Trump would have any qualms about doing exactly what Nixon would not do because Trump only cares about Trump.
