Has Fascism come to America?

Why yes. It has. MAGA!

Seriously though, I never thought I would see this.

Source: What Is Fascism?

Many experts agree that fascism is a mass political movement that emphasizes extreme nationalism, militarism, and the supremacy of the nation over the individual. This model of government stands in contrast to liberal democracies that support individual rights, competitive elections, and political dissent.

In many ways, fascist regimes are revolutionary in nature. They advocate for the overthrow of existing systems of government and the persecution of political enemies. However, such regimes are also highly conservative in their championing of traditional values.

And although fascist leaders typically claim to support the everyman, in reality, their regimes often align with powerful business interests.

Sound familiar? It should.

Existing forms of government are being overthrown through the destruction of our institutions with the Executive usurping powers traditionally given to Congress and openly defying the courts when checked.

Note the last line: aligned with powerful business interests: Musk (who is raking in millions in government contracts), Bezos, Zuckerberg.

Characteristics of Facism:

Extreme Nationalism - check.

Fascist leaders believe in the supremacy of certain groups of people based on characteristics such as race, religion, ethnicity, and nationality.

Cult of personality - check.

Fascist regimes cultivate images of their leaders as great figures to be loved and admired. This cult of personality is often perpetuated through mass media and propaganda. …The Pope chalked up Il Duce’s survival of assassination attempts to divine intervention, adding to Mussolini’s mystique.

How did Fascists come to power? This is interesting, because it tracks what has actually been happening.

“It wasn’t overnight. History laid the groundwork – a pattern of liberal decay.

First, fascist parties gained a foothold in government through initially democratic means. However, over time, the party consolidated power, and ultimately secured their dictatorship.”

Note: Trump is seeking ways for a 3rd term and a Congressman is creating a bill to create a path to a 3rd term that only applies to Trump’s situation.
What a crock.

There is absolutely nothing about our nation or the Trump Administration that qualifies as fascist.

Fascism:
  1. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent governmental controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
  2. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
  3. Oppressive, dictatorial control.

there are two relevant occurrences here.

first, our government is disappearing people.
March 26, 2025, Rümeysa Öztürk, a Turkish citizen and doctoral student at Tufts University, was walking through Somerville, Massachusetts, on her way to join friends and break her Ramadan fast. As shown in a surveillance video, she was suddenly surrounded by five individuals in plain clothes, their faces concealed by masks.

the other one is Trump's anti-democratic statements or plans, such as third term, etc.

Fascism doesn't disappear government, it increases it.

And trying to concentrate power under one man, even going so far as to question the authority of the courts.

Very few things surprise me at this point, but it was pretty shocking when Vance said that.

Either the rubes don't understand what they are enabling, OR it's EXACTLY what they want.
‘You have a problem with questioning a court ruling? Ever heard of an appeal? It’s part of the system. Been around long before Trump.

And that appeals process is proving Trump is right, according to the Constitution.

I love how you get butthurt over that.

First immigrants and foreign students and the citizens who disagree with trump policy. They will disappear.

I think it is a bit of both. They believe the Executive defines the Constitution, not Vice versa, and that the branches are not co-equal. The Executive can over-rule or edit any court or congressional action.

Insanity

That clearly doesn’t translate into us “disappearing” anybody.

There a nothing “anti-democratic” about suggesting that he might seek a third term. Indeed, term limits are inherently anti-democratic.

At most, such plans would be (at present) unconstitutional. But the Constitutional prohibition against a Presidential third term could be rescinded — as was Prohibition.

They are reducing in some areas, expanding far more intrusively in others. They’ve expanded with Doge, ICE, but mostly in the individual power exerted by the Executive.
Expanding ICE is necessary because Democrats claimed they couldn't stop millions of illegals from flooding across the border.

Trump did it in two months...without "bipartisan legislation".

Now we have to clean up your mess.

Doge is cutting the fat and keeping the lean... excising 50 years of bloat and waste. If you want to study shrimp on a treadmill...YOU pay for that... the taxpayer is done underwriting that bullshit. As well as DEI Operas and transgender comic books.

Regimes like Stalin killed millions, many of whom were not political due to their politics but class, ethnic group, religion, etc.
No one is killed simply because of such identities. They are killed/persecuted for what they do or perceived to do.

? Exactly how is that Fascist?
Read your words. You said, "fascist regimes seek to energize public participation in society through government-organized channels."

Let’s look at this definition and compare it to what is happening now.

Fascism.

According to the Council on Foreign Relations, many experts see fascism as a mass political movement centered around extreme nationalism, militarism, and the placement of national interests above those of the individual.

It’s pretty obvious we are in a period of extreme nationalism, reflected in our belligerent America First (and only) policies and actions. It is also pretty obvious that MAGA is a mass political movement.

Placement of national interests above the individual. Our actions towards immigrants (legally here) using the excuse of “national security” to move them secretly to detention centers in judge-friendly districts and effectively silence dissent and strip them of their rights would be one example. It is followed by further attacks on legitimate peaceful protests through through the use of Executive power along with new state laws to criminalize peaceful protesting with harsh punative measures, thus eroding one of our most fundamental individual rights. National interest is being redefined in the process and it includes suppressing or completely erasing individual rights for certain groups.

This point from the link is blatant and undeniable:

Fascist regimes often advocate for the overthrow of institutions that they view as "liberal decay" while simultaneously promoting traditional values.

We are seeing this play out in the chaotic dismantling of Federal agencies, including those long considered independent and non-partisan, the wholesale eradication of apolitical watch-dog agencies and ethics boards.

We are also seeing it play out in the purging or attempted purging and restructuring of humanities related entities: Kennedy Center, Smithsonian, Archives, libraries, museums and galleries.

Promoting “traditional values” through the rewriting history in these institutions (redefining Harriett Tubman’s role in the Underground Railroad for and what that railroad actually was for example) . It is also being redefined by erasing certain groups from the public sphere (schools, library books, cultural events and productions, official recognition). This purge is more stealthy, often done in the guise of getting rid of “DEI” which has come to mean anything they want it to mean. This extends beyond government entities with pressure exerted on private entities.

I’m not really getting your point.

No bullshit... Shrimp on treadmills.

Everyone can find examples of extreme, bizarre or wasteful anywhere. You know, the infamous “bridge to nowhere”. The question is is it typical?

More questions:
Is it taken out of context or misrepresented?
What was the purpose of the study? Short term and long term?
Who should determine whether or not to fund scientific studies?
Politicians?
Popular opinion?

Or should it be determined through a peer review process?

Do you want “popular opinion” to decide to reject a study on treatment of brain cancer as wasteful because they believe ivermectin cures cancer?

WTF is Fascism anyway?

It is leftist thought. It is State-Directed Capitalism. It is the bastard child of the filthy whore, Marxism. Every Fascist leader in the last century started out as a socialist, saw the excesses of Russia's revolution and tried a third way -- Fascism. Read a book fer chrissakes. All the negatives of socialism but with State-Directed Capitalism. Hitler went in a slightly different direction with his National Socialism. He didn't believe in the All-Powerful State like Stalin and Mussolini did. Although he did copy a lot from Musso, his National Socialism was quite different.

If you wish to speak of authoritarianism, then say so. Don't disguise it in name-calling. Especially when you, frankly, don't know what your talking about.

You want authoritarianism, look at some Medieval States. Look to Islam. Look to Red China where they just executed 2 Canadian Citizens for mere possession of drugs. Which, BTW, the CCP meets every textbook definition of a Fascist State. We meet -- None of them.

Except in the minds of petulant children. Your parents won't let you spend the night at your friend's house and they're mean and you hate them. We all felt like that at 12.

It's time. It's just time......
