I read the book in high school. What people don't usually know is the book is also a bit of some white-hate fantasy, as the premise is the story is being reviewed by people later in time as part of some "Caucasian Studies" seminar.

Also forgotten is the cause of the rise of the theocracy, a widespread loss of female fertility and the consequent potential end to human existence resulting in widespread social anarchy.

What you keep forgetting about Christianity is the inherent admittance that we are all sinners, and it's the striving for improvement that is the actual goal.
