On Thursday, House Republicans were unable to get themselves together and agree to debate a military funding bill, to say nothing of a continuing resolution to avert a government shutdown. Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a press conference to make sure the message to the American people is clear: This will be the “unnecessary Republican shutdown of government.” This is an inherent problem with the Republican Party’s inability to govern.

There are two types of shutdowns. One that is done in a planned and controlled manner and another one that will be the inevitable result of mindless and unlimited spending on borrowed money. The planned shut down can be ended by mutual consent but the other one cannot be ended by anything but massive human suffering. It will work its way through the total destruction of the entire economy leaving millions of people out of work, out of benefits and probably starving in the streets. This is what the spend spend spend with no limit left-wing progressives are driving us towards.A shutdown is not the solution
