White House Senses Political Risk on Healthcare Despite Shutdown Bravado

Yep Obama and the Demafasict are own by big insurance

They literally just shut the govt down because Trump was allowing the bailouts to expire in December

So, you're trying to tell me that the reason we don't have single payer national health insurance is because "Obama and the Demafasict are own by big insurance"

That is beyond idiotic!

There is zero correlation in congressional approval and midterms. Show me one single study. I showed you 30 data points. You have nothing but your usual gibberish. One example. Just one. Back up your claim. You wont.
You didn't show us anything. That chart is like saying a hurricane will hit Florida in the next 10 years. It's meaningless as a predictor.

Your single variable brain fart is just that.

Nixon/Ford lose less seats in 74 than Obama or Clinton did in their first midterms. Nixon was at 22% and Clinton/Obama were at the mid 40's.

Sure, the party in the WH loses seats in offyear midterms. Most 5 year olds know that. But given the total lack of correlation of data as to how many vs approval says that things like (popularity of out of of power party, the actual seat differential to start, how many seats lost were first time seats (flipped), and whole host of other things probably play into it).

So hold fast to your 30 data points. I hope they help you sleep better at night.

They tell you nothing about what is going to happen this time around other than Trump could lose 1 to 200 seats. And who needs a chart to tell that? Apparently you do.

As to whether or not the GOP stays in power.....your chart is totally useless.

That was a lot of typing to say “I am making shit up and cant substantiate my claim”.

Sure, anything can happen but with zero examples of a President winning midterms with a low approval he is fucked.

No, that's not why we don't have single payer healthcare, we don't have single payer because it wouldn't get through Congress.

What I am saying about Obama and the Demafacist is something unrelated to that, but true.

Congressional approval has been 15-25% for decades. No one cares.

Who said anything about Congressional approval ratings? I didn't.

Why do you keep talking about it?

"My personal experience was vastly different. Before obamadon'tcare, every job I had provided health insurance at very low or no cost to me. After it, my insurance costs went through the roof. You can't just mandate a whole bunch of new coverage and expect costs to stay the same or go down."

I have no idea where you worked. But a lot of people were provided with fig leaf policies by their employers, and were dumb enough to think they were fully covered. Big retailers like Wal Mart boasted about "full benefits" when they only offered a $2000 max payout.

And EVERY health insurannce policy you ever hand included a cap on maximum benefits, which is not legal anymore.

And, since you claim that every job you ever had provided health insurance at no cost or low cost to you, it's obvious that you have no idea what any of that insurance actually cost.

In fact, employers have been dumping increasing percentages of health insurance premiums on their employees for nearly 40 years. And the percentages have steadily increased during that period.

Of course, Trump embraced Medicare Advantage, which has resulted in millions being stuck with big bills, and a lot of obvious dubious promotion in order to get people to buy junk insurance.

Open enrollment is about to start, so there will be another orgy of promoting junk to suckers.
Good post. Good call on the cap to benefits. What a crock of shit. How can it be called insurance when it "caps out". I mean have you ever known someone that capped out their health insurance benefits? I have. It is a death sentence.

And yes, we are rolling into the Annual Election Period for Medicare Advantage. Not a more important election period. Significant changes on the plate. And it is like the wild west out there, ridiculous. Those plans need to be gone. Back to traditional Medicare for everyone, it worked so much better.

Progressives cheat and cheat massively. Republicans are on their heels as they are accused of racism, hate, bigotry, misogyny, etc, etc. It was good for you to lose in 2024. You actually stole House Seats and some Senate Seats though. Like usual. Trump is not the end of the world for Democrats. You guys need to move to the right of your communist branch though.

Well, I am convinced. You got me to switch ideologies over that indisputable proof about elections stolen. i wonder why you didnt testify all that at any of the hearings? Definitely would have swayed a judge. "Progressives cheat". Good evidence.

Jeffrey Epstein has consequences.

Then why didn't the Joey Biden administration do anything about it for 4 years?
Trying to make mountains out of mole hills. Eh?

‘Trump has projected unwavering confidence that he is winning the messaging war over the government shutdown. But behind the scenes, his team is increasingly concerned that the issue at the center of the debate will create political vulnerabilities for Republicans.

Advisers are worried that the GOP will take the blame for allowing healthcare subsidies to expire, raising costs for millions of Americans ahead of next year’s midterm elections, according to administration officials.

Inside the White House, aides are discussing proposals to extend the enhanced subsidies for Affordable Care Act health-insurance plans, the officials said. Trump hasn’t yet decided whether he will endorse such a proposal, according to the officials. Republicans say they will only hold negotiations with Democrats on the matter after the government is reopened.

The closed-door hand-wringing stands in contrast to the public bravado conveyed by the president and his top advisers. Trump has posted artificial-intelligence videos of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) wearing a sombrero. And he has said the shutdown gives his administration an “unprecedented opportunity” to make far-reaching cuts and target programs favored by Democrats. The administration is preparing to oust thousands of federal workers.’

Extending the subsidies for the ACA shouldn’t even be an issue, ending the subsidies should not have been in the reckless, irresponsible legislation passed by Republicans – that legislation and the current shutdown is typical of the right’s insanity and contempt for sound, responsible governance.

Republicans have only themselves to blame, being responsible for increasing healthcare costs for millions of Americans.

As for Trump posting AI videos, further proof Trump is a racist, bigot, and unfit to hold any public office.
Bullshit.

That was a pretty frank admission that you've been flushed out of your stupid little position.
Sure, anything can happen
It's all about probabilities and anyone with a brain knows there are generally several key factors associated with real world probabilities.

465 unrelated elections of people who mostly have nothing to do with the president. In small, individual areas.

In both Clinton and Obama's case, they lost a lot of freshmen congressman who were elected from districts that normall vote red. So, even with high approvals....they were going to lose a lot of those seats.

So, take the Captain Obvious act somewhere else

Well said. And the elections didnt give the GOP a 60 spot majority in the senate so Trump will have to deal with the consequences. Those are to work with the democrats or enjoy the shutdown.
...or change the senate rules to eliminate the filibuster.

The political risk involved in a federal shutdown isn't healthcare. Healthcare is still funded. The political risk is in the perception of healthcare sponsored by the propaganda of democrats and their minions in the media.

Following the signing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) in July 2025, millions of Americans are expected to lose their healthcare coverage due to significant cuts to Medicaid and changes affecting the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that by 2034, approximately 10 million people will become uninsured because of the bill's provisions

Yep. So obvious even you know it’s coming. Blue wave alert!

Yea do that. You’d be 3 years from a packed court and abortion guaranteed in all 50 states if you do that. Please do it.voting rights bill passed. Awesome.

So it would cost $74 a month more for Obamacare if the subsidy is deleted. Not a big deal, back to what it was before Covid.

Just change the filibuster for ending shutdowns, like for passing the president's nominees, not for major legislation.

There has been no change to the growth of healthcare cost (graph 1) yet more people are now covered (graph 2). Your personal experience can be anything - many companies raised rates to shift the burden to employees. The data sources are notated for you.

Without a yard stick of some sort, just watching nominal numbers go up over time doesn't tell you much. Nominal numbers always go up over time.

If you look at the health spending numbers as a share of GDP, or as a share of per capita personal incomes, etc you'll find that they essentially stopped growing in 2010.
