White House Senses Political Risk on Healthcare Despite Shutdown Bravado

Yep Obama and the Demafasict are own by big insurance

They literally just shut the govt down because Trump was allowing the bailouts to expire in December

Nonsense.

The GOP failed to pass it's kick-the-can-down-the-road continuing resolution. It never gave the Democratic proposal a hearing.

And then they recessed and ran away.

Nobody is more in bed with the medical industrial complex than the GOP. The GOP has consistantly fought every health care reform bill since Medicare was set up in 1966.

The GOP wants to let the bailouts expire, the dems don't. They literally are shutting the govt down over it....stop your projection, there is reality.

Projection? What projection?

The GOP wouldn't negotiate, let the clock run out, and ran home.

They're not stepping up to resolve the issue. They think they can wait it out.

Meanwhile Trump and Voight threaten massive layoffs, which are probably illegal (not that it matters to either one of them).

Trump has attempted to rule by decree, as is his wont. But these matters will all be revisited.

Your projection....so much that you are ignoring the reality that your party literally shut the govt down over giving bailouts to big insurance

Your party is owned by the big insurance, so much, you are putting them over the American people. There is nothing to resolve, the Dems passed the law, setting the expiration date for the bailouts. What's to resolve?

Layoffs are happening because the Govt is shutdown, you idiot. How's he ruling by decree? He's waiting on the bill to be passed. You all don't want to pass it.

‘Trump has projected unwavering confidence that he is winning the messaging war over the government shutdown. But behind the scenes, his team is increasingly concerned that the issue at the center of the debate will create political vulnerabilities for Republicans.

Advisers are worried that the GOP will take the blame for allowing healthcare subsidies to expire, raising costs for millions of Americans ahead of next year’s midterm elections, according to administration officials.

Inside the White House, aides are discussing proposals to extend the enhanced subsidies for Affordable Care Act health-insurance plans, the officials said. Trump hasn’t yet decided whether he will endorse such a proposal, according to the officials. Republicans say they will only hold negotiations with Democrats on the matter after the government is reopened.

The closed-door hand-wringing stands in contrast to the public bravado conveyed by the president and his top advisers. Trump has posted artificial-intelligence videos of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) wearing a sombrero. And he has said the shutdown gives his administration an “unprecedented opportunity” to make far-reaching cuts and target programs favored by Democrats. The administration is preparing to oust thousands of federal workers.’

Extending the subsidies for the ACA shouldn’t even be an issue, ending the subsidies should not have been in the reckless, irresponsible legislation passed by Republicans – that legislation and the current shutdown is typical of the right’s insanity and contempt for sound, responsible governance.

Republicans have only themselves to blame, being responsible for increasing healthcare costs for millions of Americans.

As for Trump posting AI videos, further proof Trump is a racist, bigot, and unfit to hold any public office.
Another wishful thinking thread by the board moron.

Well said. And the elections didnt give the GOP a 60 spot majority in the senate so Trump will have to deal with the consequences. Those are to work with the democrats or enjoy the shutdown.
I am enjoying the shutdown.

If it never ends, I'll be great.

The issue is that the vast majority of American people dislike you and your Demafascist cult.

And because of that, and the fact you all stand for shutting the govt down so illegals can get benefits, and for tax payer funds going to big insurance companies, you won't win.
Derp derp. Your predictions mean nothing. History shows a president with less than 50% approval gets wiped out in the midterms. There is exactly ONE exception. That was Biden in 2022 losing only 9 seats - not a wipeout.

Examples (last 100 years)

WIPE OUTS
  • Truman (1950, 1952) – Approval in the 30s. Democrats lost heavily both times.
  • Eisenhower (1958) – Approval ~48%. Republicans lost 48 House seats.
  • Johnson (1966) – Approval in the 40s. Democrats lost 47 House seats.
  • Nixon (1974, Watergate) – Approval in the 20s. Republicans lost 48 House seats.
  • Carter (1978) – Approval mid-40s. Democrats lost 15 House seats.
  • Reagan (1982) – Approval ~42%. Republicans lost 26 House seats.
  • Clinton (1994) – Approval ~46%. Democrats lost 54 House seats, GOP took Congress.
  • Bush (2006) – Approval in the mid-30s. Republicans lost 30 House and 6 Senate seats.
  • Obama (2010, 2014) – Approval mid-40s. Democrats lost 63 seats in 2010, 13 in 2014.
  • Trump (2018) – Approval in the low 40s. Republicans lost 41 House seats.

Loss But Not Wipeout

  • Biden (2022) – Approval ~42%. Democrats did much better than expected, losing only 9 House seats and gaining 1 Senate seat (so not “wiped out”).

PICK UPS
  • Clinton 1998 – Approval ~66% amid impeachment drama. Democrats gained 5 House seats.
  • Bush 2002 – Approval ~63% after 9/11. Republicans gained 8 House seats and 2 Senate seats.

Cool, but you seem to forget that never before has your party had such record low approval.

You all used to be an option, now you are not.

Perhaps you misinterpreted my comments.

I am a strong supporter of the ACA. My only regret is that we were lobbied out of creating single payer national health insurance.

I was not talking out of personal experience, I was discussing long term trends. (I could have spoken from personal experience, as the my shared of "company provided" health insurance premiums has steadily increased over the years from zero, to approximately 50%) This is not uncommon outside large corporations or government agencies.
Sorry. Ready fire aim on my part. Obamacare failed to do anything to lower or stop costs from rising. What it did was expand coverage successfully and affordably. We are a long way off from controlling healthcare costs without a community stand against price increases aka... the government.

Remind me when your party ever had an approval rating

affordablel? hahah nope it's cost taxpayers over $20k per day.

The Affordable Care Act Has Not Been Affordable For Taxpayers

The CBO estimated that exchange enrollees would cost federal taxpayers $6,850 each by 2021. In reality, each new enrollee cost taxpayers $20,739, or over three times as much.

All Obama and the Dems did was partner with their big insurance company donors and give them massive bailouts....heck you all shut the govt down because the GOP is letting some of the bailouts expire at the end of the year.

Remind me when your party ever had an approval rating
Yep...don't hold your breath.

When challenged with "data", the "data guy" sticks his gator tail between his legs and heads 180 degrees the other direction.

Completely meaningless without the approval ratings of the other side during the same time period.

No, we are not going to give him the clean kick the can down the road resolution he wants.

Correct, we know you are shutting the Govt down and holding Americans hostage for your big donors in big insurance. We are well aware of what you are doing.

And they're trying to gaslight us about it, as if the internet doesn't exist.

Congressional approval has been 15-25% for decades. No one cares.
Completely meaningless without the approval ratings of the other side during the same time period.
There is zero correlation in congressional approval and midterms. Show me one single study. I showed you 30 data points. You have nothing but your usual gibberish. One example. Just one. Back up your claim. You wont.
