Grocery store

the card i swipe is a debit card...how can you tell the difference? i have never noticed anyone like this....but this is more evidence of how american's attitudes have changed....we should be fighting the government not each other....

I don't even pay attention to how someone in front of me is paying let alone what they buy.. I read the headlines on Enquirer and US.

I could not help but pay attention, she was loud and telling her little baby girl to shut up.

Which part? :eusa_angel: The part where I have to put back food and she does not?

This is what pisses me off about people who complain about food stamps.

An entire thread dedicated to why you hate people on food stamps...

Typical Repub.

Typical response from someone who is afraid to see all sides of an issue.

I hate the people on food stamp program? :eusa_eh: And where did I say that????

And why do you people skim over the parts about what negatives happen to those who make welfare their way of life.

Do you not see what that culture has done to our country? That is my point. If you cannot see that, then you are lost.

Some of you have no problem judging and hating on me though. Hypocrits

I'm not judging or hating you.
You are judging and hating on people you don't know. Because they have foodstamps and are spending them on decent food.

That is the point of fs, by the way.

Bullshit. I'm a conservative Republican.

Allie don't you work for health and human services? I give to charities, not only of my resources but my time as well. But the charity giving in a monetary way has lessened because of tax hikes on all areas of my life.

Criticism of a government program that people abuse is hating on someone? What is wrong with you???

Yes. I'm a caseworker. I know you give to charities. But I also know that people on welfare get the shaft from people they don't know all the time, and I also know that the majority of my clients work.

I also have problems with the welfare state. But I don't believe in looking down on people who for whatever reason are legally taking advantage of it. I have people come into my office all the time, crying because they've never had food stamps and are humiliated about it. I have people come in who are depressed because their lives are shit. I've been on foodstamps and know first hand what it's like to have people treat you like shit in the check-out line. As long as they're legal, we have absolutely no right to judge people who have them.

You weren't criticicizing the program in the first post. You were criticizing the people who buy decent food with an ebt card. Based on your assumptions in a check-out line, and flavored with your resentment that you are having to budget your food while they are buying steaks.

Here's my take. She's going to get the hand out, whether you like it or not..

Would you be more, or less pissed off if she were buying complete shit, rather than fresh fruits/veggies and healthier cuts of meat?

The point is, that WIC covers her buying the veggies and fruit. That is some expensive eating these days. The steaks were T bones and filets. She could plan her meals better. Oh and they pay cash for their beer
And by the way, I would be happier if she got a job.

I guess, having seen the crap people can do with welfare, while I understand your frustration of having to pay for someone else, while you can barely afford to pay for yourself, I don't really see the reason for what sounds like severe anger..

A) You have no idea why she's on welfare to begin with, but the fact that she's buying actual, healthy food would cause me to consider the possibility this is actually a temporary thing, and she's not buying any differently than she would in any other scenario..

B) I've seen people sell food stamps to get cash for drugs.

C) I see people spending their entire welfare check playing bingo/slots at the local casino, while talking about who's "minding their kids", while telling their friend "Gimme a fitty ($50), and I'll git choo some food when we gits to da stoe'".

Sorry, but I'd rather see someone do what she's going, and buying actual food than see any more of the crap I've seen in the past. If I'm forced to foot the bill, at least it's something I'd spend money on...

Alot of times they buy those expensive steaks because they can. It's not their money anyway. However I used to work in a grocery store and sometimes they come back several hours later and ask for a refund. They want cash for the steaks which sometime amounts to alot. $60-100 can buy alot of beer.

Because it was pretty darned apparent that people abuse the system. It was also apparent that it was the first week of the month and she spent a big chunk on a few items, Is the system is there to be abused? I could tell you all kinds of things that I have seen concerning the ebt and food stamp program. But I digress, because of the apparent lack of putting my thread in context. I do not like wasting time, nor resources, like the government does.

You have never heard or seen a certain situation and was moved to make a comment about your thoughts???

Yes, that happens all the time, and some sell their cards for cash. And the buyer makes out like a bandit

I think some people that are calling me a hater are so sheltered, they can see only what their hearts allow them to see. I am a realist, I do not understand why people only see what they want to see.

I'm not sheltered. And I'm telling you you're bigoted and there's no way for you to know enough about a woman in a check out line to make all the sweeping assumptions you're making about people on welfare.

Yes, they have issues. I promise you, those issues are real and make their lives a living hell.

If they sell their card they cannot get it "recharged" next month.

Does that make the working man's issues any less real. Does calling me a bigot make you feel better?

I am as far from being a bigot as one can be. You are blind, and you have judged me based on your biased view on a few posts. Hypocrit!!!

Not true, the person who buys it has an on going "business relationship" with the card holder

I think the point is when you're living off of taxes you need to budget yourself.

You don't need to be feeding your family the most expensive foods. You should stick to what's healthy. All of that red meat is not healthy regardless how much it costs.
