Green Power in Texas

The failure in Texas begins and ends with their GOP philosophy and governance

They are incompetent in lying as well. As small a portion of the state's electricity that is produced by clean technology, their fake excuse would be bogus even if the state were more advanced:
... Sweden, which is known for its colder climate, has offered the Lone Star State some advice to keep the wings moving no matter how harsh the weather - and it only requires 'the right gear.'
Skellefteå Kraft has experimented with operating wind turbines in the Arctic and coats the wings with thin layers of carbon fiber that automatically heat to prevent ice from forming.
The firm also uses sensors in the blades that detect when there is a risk of ice formation and starts the de-icing system before freezing starts...
Approximately 1,697 miles north of Texas sits Canada is home to wind farms, but experiences deep freezes about 20 percent of the time between November and April.
Officials have opted for 'cold weather packages' that heat crucial turbine components such as the gearbox, yaw and pitch motors, according to the Canadian government.
The special technologies have allowed some turbines to operate in temperatures as low as -22F (-30C).

Even HAD the ERCOT or whatever energy commission Texas uses, winterized their wind turbines properly that would have not saved Texas from this debacle because in the winter they only get 10% of their energy from renewables in the winter.

They failed across the board. They failed to protect ALL of their energy sources.

Yeah.....imagine when your power goes out in the middle of winter....that's Texas..imagine Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, New York...no power in the middle of January because solar is blocked by snow, and wind turbines are frozen solid......
Regardless of the fake pretense targeting clean energy (a small percentage of electrical power in TX), there is no reason to project the incompetence of Texas politicians onto other states.

Sweden and Canada are among nations that have demonstrated that coating turbine blades with carbon fiber to prevent ice build-up and/or heating critical components insures continuing operation during extremely cold weather.

As a prudent back-up, more capable states and nations have planned for the option of a transferral of electrical power to where it is needed via integrated grids.

In addition, it is the reckless deregulation in Texas that results in some unfortunates now being hit with a month's $15,000 bill.

... those who could still summon lights with the flick of a switch felt lucky.
Now, many of them are paying a severe price for it.
“My savings is gone,” said Scott Willoughby, a 63-year-old Army veteran who lives on Social Security payments in a Dallas suburb. He said he had nearly emptied his savings account so that he would be able to pay the $16,752 electric bill charged to his credit card — 70 times what he usually pays for all of his utilities combined. “There’s nothing I can do about it, but it’s broken me.”
Mr. Willoughby is among scores of Texans who have reported skyrocketing electric bills as the price of keeping lights on and refrigerators humming shot upward. For customers whose electricity prices are not fixed and are instead tied to the fluctuating wholesale price, the spikes have been astronomical.
As a consequence of the politicians' gross incompetence, individual and class action lawsuits will likely add hundreds of millions of dollars to the hefty tab that will be paid by the Texas taxpayer.

Hey...moron....Solar and wind failed Texas........had they had more turbines the disaster would have been worse.......

And the typical left wing response to government failing....?

Let's give them more money and more control...

You idiot.

Moron.... if they had more wind and solar, the crisis would have been worse....nuclear, natural gas and coal saved them....while wind and solar failed...

If they had WINTERIZED...there would have been no crisis regardless of the power generation source

"Government" didn't fail

REPUBLICAN government failed

Texas residents told to stay off roads as ‘historic Arctic outbreak’ leaves 2.5 million without power (yahoo.com)

" Turbines in that area have frozen amid the cold temperatures, causing the state’s wind power capacity to fall from 25,100 megawatts of energy to just 12,000, according to the Austin American-Statesman. "

Guess Mother Nature can screw up Green energy.

Those stupid turbines also don't work when the wind ain't blowing. Just like the even more stupid solar cells don't work when the sun ain't shinning.

Just saying.

Even on a cloudy day solar panels only drop 10-25% in efficiency depending on the quality of the panels. They work even better in cold. Windmills are a clean source of energy, and are cheap to produce, so why not utilize them, in conjunction with other renewable and non renewable sources for cheaper and cleaner energy?
