I said it's political posturing, because it is. The Senate (as you have already pointed out) is not a law enforcement body, they are a political body. Any "investigation" into supposedly criminal issues that they perform is political posturing, by definition.

As you've already pointed out, the Senate is not a law enforcement body. They don't get to decide whether a criminal investigation should exist or not - that is plainly in the purview of the executive branch, and not the legislative.
