Democrats Say F.B.I. Did Not Interview Critical Witnesses About Pete Hegseth

Senate Democrats on Monday said that an F.B.I. background check on Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald J. Trump’s pick to lead the Pentagon, omitted key details on major allegations against him, in part because it did not include interviews with critical witnesses.

One missed opportunity came when the bureau did not interview one of Mr. Hegseth’s ex-wives before its findings were presented to senators last week, according to people familiar with the bureau’s investigation.

“My understanding is that some of them would like to be contacted by the F.B.I. investigative team, or the vetters, and they have not been talked to,” Ms. Duckworth added in the MSNBC interview.

A spokeswoman for the F.B.I. declined to comment.

Mr. Trump's transition team commissioned the F.B.I. background check on Mr. Hegseth last month after initially floating the idea of hiring private contractors to look into the president-elect’s cabinet picks. As the client, presidential transition teams are traditionally able to set the parameters for background checks into cabinet picks, and potentially dictate which witnesses are interviewed and what questions are asked. The transition team’s directions to the F.B.I. for its investigation of Mr. Hegseth are unknown.

Report says Trump White House obstructed FBI probe into allegations against Kavanaugh

For her part, Sen. Duckworth has noted Dems were not given the same access to Hegseth as Repubs prior to today's hearing.

Duckworth: Trump’s Pentagon pick has less experience than Applebee’s manager

Duckworth held the press call to lay out her concerns about Trump’s nominee, insisting that her objections to Hegseth aren’t motivated by politics but by what his confirmation would mean for national security.

She complained that Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), the ranking Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, will likely be the only Senate Democrat who will meet with Hegseth before his hearing.
Duckworth also noted that rank-and-file Democrats on the Armed Services panel may not have a chance to fully review the FBI background check on the nominee, an investigation Democrats believe will be critical to assess a sexual assault allegation from 2017 and alleged mismanagement of Concerned Veterans for America (CVA), an advocacy group.

Can anyone think of a reason why trump's transition team would limit the scope of Hegseth's background check as his WH limited the scope of Kavanaugh's? Are they trying to hide his lack of qualifications for the job, his heavy drinking, his abuse of women, his mismanagement of funds for the partisan vets organizations he ran, the reasons he was let go by them, or his bizarre statements on everything from women to religion?

Well, not only do we have to hold the felonious sexual abuser incoming President to lower standards across the board, we have to do the same for anyone he picks for critical positions.

That's just where we are now.
To your point, Blumenthal essentially said Collins will likely get Dem's support because he isn't as big a pile of shit as the other nominees.

“In accordance with long-standing practice, the committee should have an opportunity to review Congressman Collins’ FBI file before the confirmation hearing,” Moran said. “I expect the FBI to complete its review quickly so that the committee can move forward with its role of evaluating the President’s nominee.”

It’s the second Trump selection in a single day to see their hearing delayed due to paperwork delays. Doug Burgum, Trump’s pick to run the Interior Department, was the first: He had been slated for a hearing Tuesday, too, but it was bumped to Thursday.

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said Sunday in a CBS News interview that director of national intelligence pick Tulsi Gabbard is also having a "paperwork problem."

Collins, who was the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee before he lost his seat in Congress in a failed bid for the Senate, is expected to be confirmed but could face a number of difficult questions, including over a budget shortfall at the agency and how he plans to handle thorny issues like abortion.

Veterans' Affairs Committee ranking member Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said in an interview Monday he wasn’t sure of the reason for the FBI’s delay in submitting Collins' paperwork. He said the materials are expected by the end of the week.

Blumenthal also left the door open to Democrats voting for Collins, noting he is “less controversial” than other picks — but offered a caveat that Democratic support will depend on his answers at the hearing.

Of course, Trump wants lower standards.
Meaning, he wants none.

Trump may start his second term with a stunning power grab

Nov 16, 2024 — Could Trump force the Senate into recess — and then appoint whoever he wanted to the government?

Sure. That's why he wants to gut all government positions and replace them with blind loyalists, why he wants to destroy the press, why he wants to bring down the justice and judicial systems.

He doesn't want to be held accountable.

The world has seen it before, and it's all playing out again, in real time, right in front of us.

Meanwhile, Suzie Wiles made a telling admission.

Ms. Wiles insists she is not concerned about Mr. Trump’s most provocative cabinet picks, including Pete Hegseth, his choice to run the Defense Department. Mr. Hegseth, a military veteran who has been accused by a woman of sexual assault, which he has denied, has no experience leading an agency of nearly three million people.

“That’s what staff is for,” Ms. Wiles said briskly. “It’s our obligation to give him people that understand the business of national defense.” To Ms. Wiles, Mr. Hegseth is one of Mr. Trump’s desired “disrupters” of the status quo, just like his choice of Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence and Mr. Kennedy as the secretary of health and human services.

The president-elect, she said, “would rather have a disrupter at the top and buttress the disrupter with people who know the business or the agency. That’s the idea. And so if you think of it that way, it explains all of them.”

So as some of us suspected, trump's picks aren't actually qualified to run the agencies they will lead. They were picked to blow them up.

You mean a disgusting smear job like the one they did on Kavanaugh? People are getting sick of the Left's shit, Berg! They want the military fixed.

You suspected that? Trump RAN on that! It's what the American people want. The leadership at the FBI needs to go. They're hopelessly corrupt.

Like many of Dotard's picks, Pete was chosen because trump saw him on Faux. After which trump informed his transition team to look in to him. It's why the rape allegation and Pete's mismanagement of the two, partisan vet orgs he lead came as a surprise to everyone at Team trump.
But once Cheeto made the decision to pick someone as manifestly unqualified as Pete, trumples launched a full scale press on Repub senators to support him.

So you would prefer he pick a manifestly unqualified person like Kamala, who couldn’t do anything other than read notes prepared by someone else?
