By extending unemployment more money is taken out of the private sector which only makes the problem worse in the end.

Bush may have started it but have no doubt, Obama is making it much worse.

I personally know a couple of people right now who are on unemployment and have been drawing it for around 6 months.

They have no intention of looking for work because they are makiing a pretty good chunk of change by staying home. They aren't worried about running out of unemployment because the Govt keeps extending benefits.

Well that will get them used to living with less income for the jobs they are likely to find?

LOl. You may be right. I just wonder what will be out there when they actually start looking for work.

A demand for Chinese language tutors?

Unfortunately it's the latter. At this point in time the liberals are caught with their pants down and all they can do is bash people with better Ideas than theirs.

Their whole theory on governance is being exposed as a bunch of pie in the sky crap and it's going to drive them crazy.

Last time I looked there is 72 weeks of unemployment compensation, that should be enough time to start your own business let alone find a job. As for all of you out of work Americans Hell! go out and compete with the illegals for jobs. You might learn something they didn't bother to teach you in school...How to survive 101.

Or better yet sign up to defend your country.

Where to start?

Many Republicans simply don't have any education. So what kind of business will they start? Since there are so many out of work, who will pay them? And if they have 9 kids because of their "Christian" beliefs, where do they get money for a "business start up"?
Your plan might work better for Democrats, but for Republicans, not so much.

I am conservative, have a MBA, and have a very successful business.

You are zero for three.

Dean is a 0with a capitol 0....

Jim Bunning Repeatedly Blocks Unemployment Benefits Extension, Tells Dem 'Tough Shit'

Updated below: The Senate has now recessed for the weekend without taking action.

Jim Bunning, a Republican from Kentucky, is single-handedly blocking Senate action needed to prevent an estimated 1.2 million American workers from prematurely losing their unemployment benefits next month.

As Democratic senators asked again and again for unanimous consent for a vote on a 30-day extension Thursday night, Bunning refused to go along.

And when Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) begged him to drop his objection, Politico reports, Bunning replied: "Tough shit."

Bunning says he doesn't oppose extending benefits -- he just doesn't want the money that's required added to the deficit. He proposes paying for the 30-day extension with stimulus funds. The Senate's GOP leadership did not support him in his objections.

And at one point during the debate, which dragged on till nearly midnight, Bunning complained of missing a basketball game.

"I have missed the Kentucky-South Carolina game that started at 9:00," he said, "and it's the only redeeming chance we had to beat South Carolina since they're the only team that has beat Kentucky this year.

I saw the clip of him saying this. It really, really, got to me. I've said it before and I'll say it again. This country will be so much better off when the dead weight of those old fart white Republican leaders, with the mindset of the 1920's, are off our backs.

So, how long would you pay unemployment benefits? Indefinitely? And how would you fund such payments? My understanding is Bunning demanded funding for the extension.. but then again,, go ahead,, tell us what you would do..

I've found that when you start questioning "successful Republicans" such as yourself, their "incredible success" is not so incredible. Most of the time, they can't even answer basic questions. Not all, but most.

Everyone is successful, smart and beautiful on a blog.

Dean ole boy.....in the other thread you danced twice around a very simple basic question i asked you.....you know the one....about are the Dems in bed with any Corporations that seem to own them, like the Republicans are....why couldnt Dean answer that very simple basic question?.....are you a closet Republican Dean?....

yea,yea....but you wont say that about these assholes who are ruining the state you live in...

The issue is that he doesn't want it to be added to the deficiet, he wants it to be paid for by the stimulus money.

If you have a big new expense, do you think it's better to pay for it now, or add it to your credit card?

Don't confuse them, they were all HOWLING about how the war was off budget but this? That is just fine.

Tell why you didn't want to pay for the war. Tell why that was okay.

911 started a war. At that time, whether you agree with it or not, our national security is at stake. We can't wait for congress to figures out the numbers during that time.

However, paying for unemployment benefits by using the wasted stimulus money sounds like a much better idea than putting it on a credit card.

We're in hard times. And continually referring to another average $300.00 weekly unemployment check as stimulus money is getting real old.

It's high time Americans either remember or study up on the great depression--when no such thing existed as an unemployment check.

Right now, this country is OUT OF MONEY. So we either toughen up as our grandparents did & make it through this mess--or we choose to raid our children & grandchildrens future.

YOUR CHOICE AMERICA!

Im not sure we have a choice. We are going to have to toughen up as our grandparents did or we are going to die. That part is already certain. The question is do we toughen up now. or do we wait until after we've destroyed our economy so completely that recovery is impossible in this century?

Actually, I think 9/11 just woke up a large part of the population to the fact that we are already at war.

Um, not with Iraq, which is where a TRILLION dollars has disappeared to for NO REASON.

No reason? Seriously, I understand disagreeing with the reasons. But you are lying to yourself if you are seriously going to argue that they don't exist at all.

The Great Depression is here. The only difference between then & now--is the unemployment check. Our government is now borrowing money from other countries to pay states for medicade--& unemployment--basically giving swimming lessons to the American public while they are on the Titanic & it's sinking.

So do we take the bitter pill now--or go into massive debt & then decide to swallow it?

I notice no one answered my question.

EXACTLY how long should we be paying unemployment benefits for? And another, why is it NOT part of the Budget?
