The Georgia state Senate on Tuesday passed legislation that would require voters to submit a driver’s license number, state identification card number or a photocopy of an approved form of identification in order to vote absentee in the state.

Senate Bill 67 passed the upper chamber in 35-18 vote on Tuesday and now heads to the state House for consideration, The Associated Press reports.

The bill has already been met with opposition from Democrats and voting rights groups who say the legislation would make it difficult for voters who don't have a driver’s license or state identification card to vote absentee. According to the AP, absentee ballots are currently tallied using signature verification.

Judging from the present; the fact the 2020 elections were the fairest in years still ended up with a bunch of right wing fascists trying to storm the capitol to over turn those fair elections...

When conservatives talk about fair elections; what they really mean is "only we get to win"

The GOP is always serious about suppressing the vote. It shows their desperation and fear of their fellow Americans exercising our right to participate in democracy. While "election security" is important, there is no evidence that our last election, in which approximately 160 million Americans voted, was insecure or unfair.

Prosecutions for voter fraud have always been miniscule, although I've heard allegations of some folks using addresses in two different states, circulating messages falsely stating that people could vote on the internet, or circulating misinformation as to the date of the election.

What the GOP should do, but won't, is to take a long look at the policies they espouse and the candidates they run, and how much they attract or alienate voters.
