perhaps at lower levels of security clearance, the FBI does it. but the director of national intelligence gets to see everything, so it would likely be a top secret clearance. The agency that does that is Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency

Tulsi can't be happy about the renewed scrutiny of her comments regarding whether Assad was responsible for using chemical weapons on his people the fall of Assad's regime will bring. Only she knows why she questioned Assad's responsibility, and went on to criticize trump over his missile strikes in Syria following the chemical weapons attacks.
Assad must have enjoyed the support he got from a member of the US House of Reps. Especially how she claimed Syria was not an enemy of the US despite Assad's alliance with Putin. No doubt she is already preparing to spin her comments in getting ready for her confirmation hearing.
