My kids would NEVER do that. EVER! They are now 27 and 20 and have never thrown a temper tantrum in public nor were rude to me in public. I'm not exaggerating.

You were very lucky. Most kids reach some point where they hate their parents and are embarrassed to be around someone they think is so dumb. They grow out of it, but it gets frustrating for a little while.
