A Canadian nurse from BC informed me in 1994, that a heart bypass surgery in BC was free--however, I probably would have to wait three months to have it performed instead of the three days that I waited. The cost that was billed was $100K. The insurance company negotiated it down to $40K and I was capped at $5K. Quite the deal, I thought, for a successful surgery that has restored good health for 28 years and counting.
