Oil prices are set by OPEC. The US is not a member of OPEC.

Oil production is set by OPEC, the price of oil is actually set in the oil futures market. Of course, cutting/boosting production will have an effect on it's commodity pricing.

That would work if you took speculators out of the equation.

Only one problem there, Obama stated in the past he WANTS gas to go up to do exactly what the reporter asked, to supposedly ween us off gas. He said it in 2008 and has designed policies to increase the price of gas at the pumps in the US. With regulations preventing drilling, with regulations preventing the use of coal shale, by canceling the pipe line from Canada, with regulations to close oil and gas power stations that generate electricity.

He WANTS prices to go up, he just doesn't want to be blamed for it during an election cycle.

Obama had no business smacking anyone for asking a valid question, numb-nuts. This is the problem with this president. Obama doesn't like critics. His goal is to silence them rather than convince them his ideas are better.

The evidence is out there, and the numbers don't lie and the most obvious number is the price at the pump. The price of gas has more than doubled since Obama took office. Obama said that it doesn't make sense politically to increase gas prices "during an election year", but after the election all bets are off. Problem is all of the prep work they've done that they want to have kick in later is still effecting the price this year instead of next year.

Obama represents the environmentalists on the left and they want prices to go up. They've even been trying to tell us how great high gas prices are.

What Obama's Energy Sec says matters. Their goal is to curb consumption and the best way to do that is cause the prices to go up. It's why they won't allow us to build any new refineries in the United States. It's why they don't want us to use newly discovered oil reserves in this country. If Iran cuts off the Straits of Hormuz our prices will double because we have fewer options, thanks to Obama and friends. Once it happens it will be too late to reverse it.

It will take a full year just to start producing oil from new wells and close to a decade to reverse the damage Obama is doing to domestic production. The only option would be for the government to take over the oil industry and force them to sell gas in the US instead of abroad. Then the socialists in the White House could call the shots. We would be completely dependent on government.

My my, it sounds so reasonable when you put it like that. Except the only way Obama can effect gasoline prices is if the Federal tax on gas goes up. Or down. Now what chance do you think that Congress is going to raise gasoline taxes. Or do you think Obama sets market prices for oil.

And that leads me to a question I have asked many times here. And it is always ignored cause it is to hard to answer. You may try if you like.

Why will the oil companies sell the USA oil cheaper to US customers than they could sell it on the world market? Why would they do that? You think oil companies are in business to subsidize the American consumer with lower prices than they (oil comp) could get elsewhere?

Second question. Do you think that if every drilling site wanted by the Repus was in full production, do you think we would have enough supply to flood the market with oil and drive prices down?

Third and final. Do we need to reduce consumption of oil? Just curious.

No, he's not. You probably didn't want to listen anyway. Being better informed is not a bad thing, even for Democrats.

Whenever you start producing oil from a new well you've already maxed out the amount that well can produce. As the pressure goes down in those wells the amount drops. To maintain any current level you have to constantly drill a set amount of new wells. Obama has cancelled 77 oil leases in one state alone. That means fewer new wells. There may be more oil coming out of wells that were allowed to drill during the Bush years but in a year or two that will change.

The primary reason the price of gas is currently going up isn't because of how much oil is available but the price per barrel. Since the price is in dollars the price at the pump goes up and down accordingly. The primary reason is because our money isn't worth as much as it used to. Thanks to Obama's spending and his monetizing the debt it effects prices everywhere. Add to that the fact that China is consuming more and more and buying more. As our consumption goes down the price can still go up as China makes up the difference in world wide consumption.

He didn't lie about what the prez said. He mentioned what Obama critics said.

Besides, it's best not to to take stock in what he's saying at any given moment because it's subject to change. Pay more attention to what he's doing. Pay more attention to what his administration says. They aren't using a teleprompter. They say their primary goal is to curb consumption so somebody is lying.

One thing that is difficult to get Obama to say is he wants prices to go down. He'll talk about the hardship high prices causes (like he gives a damn) but he won't say what he's doing to fight those high prices. He has said he can't do anything to effect the price. That is a lie of course.

I didn't say it was all about monetizing the debt. That is just one of many factors. Oil prices are based on a world market. The only way that would change is if our governmet nationalized our oil industry. Maxine Waters let that cat out of the bag.

The solution is to increase the value of the dollar or nationalize domestic oil. Guess which one Obama would rather do? He'd rather take over Big Oil. This is all leading up to that.
