Former Secretary of Defense William Cohen: “Maybe it’s time for a new [Republican] party.”

Republican, William Cohen served as Secretary of Defense during President Bill Clinton’s second term in office.
He is now condemning the GOP for permitting the impeached president trump to maintain his stranglehold on the party since his November defeat.
Cohen doesn’t seem to realize the knowledge and understanding the impeached president trump brought to the Republican Party. It is a knowledge and understanding of the GOP’s own voting base, and the many doors the impeached president trump’s corruption opened for the party’s future.
The blind loyalty the impeached president trump inspired in 73+million Americans is a goal Republican political strategists have never been able to accomplish. It was the goal of the party’s “Southern Strategy” and, without the presidency of the impeached president trump, the phenomenal level success of that strategy demonstrated during the past four years could never have been reached.
Cohen objects to the impeached president trump’s lies and misinformation that inspires in his followers to commit violence, also, their willingness to die believing COVID-19 is a hoax created by the Democrats, and/or that, the disease is real but poses little danger. He further objects to “his fellow Republicans who are sycophantic toward” the impeached president trump, echoing all his lies, misinformation, and promoting his many conspiracy theories.
But, what Cohen sees as negative, Republican leaders like Moscow Mitch see as the party’s newly achieved ability to conduct business openly, with only progressives and other “sore losers” objecting to the corruption that can now be seen as normal, even admirable by an ever-increasing number of Americans.
So, Cohen, get off your high horse, give credit to the impeached president trump for assuring the best days of the Republican Party are ahead.
