I support the suspension or revocation of a license to own, possess or have in one's custody and control for due cause, and that anyone convicted of a violent crime, stalking, domestic violence or making criminal threats be denied a license unless an appeal is made and the offender has been pardoned by the governor or received a certificate of rehabilitation.

And all those processes would be used to create a de facto ban, just like there is in NYC for handguns. The fees would be excessive, the waits excessive, and government would do everything possible to make the process as slow, agonizing, and confusing as possible.

In NYC I cannot even get a handgun for home use without paying $1000 in fees, and waiting 3-6 months while some bureaucratic hacks figure out if I am "worthy" of the honor of exercising my 2nd amendment rights.

Yet if you are a cop, or a retired cop, or part of the government, or wealthy enough to pay for an expediter, you can get your permit easy-peasy. Its cronyism at its best, something progressives like you LOVE, because it allows the rules to be applied to "me" and not to "thee".

Requirements on all employers to verify status, requirements on local governments to verify status of people getting benefits. Deportation if found to be illegal. (The kids, if born in US can stay as wards of the state, or come back legally when 18)

There is no slope, in NYC the process it at the bottom.

Why does a cop have a right to an off duty handgun in his house and I don't? Why does a retired cop, even if he has no reason to have one, get to skip the process by checking off a box on the application? Why is a $1000 fee and a 3-6 month waiting period not infringement?

Consider the labor costs as well as the cost of detention facilities, medical, dental, food and clothing necessary to provide for those detained and awaiting a hearing. Keep in mind the cost for and increase in US Marshall's, Deputy US Attorney's, Public Defenders and private counsel in conflicted cases; the number of social workers and group homes/foster families necessary for the US Citizens under the age of 18 (group homes and foster families are paid by the tax payer too); the cost for Administrative Law Judges and the physical setting for due process hearings and/or trials.

Congress needs to pass immigration reform and figure out a way to solve the issue, which they have kicked down the road for more than 20 years. I don't advocate for amnesty, but the problem is too far advance to spend the vast amount of money necessary to hunt everyone here illegally down, and provide them the due process required by the law.
