And collected a lot of money, which, I was told later depleted their bonus pool for security prevention.

You can't give civilians in stores that type of physical use to apprhend baddies.

And at the other end of the spectrum, staff is told they have to just stand by and watch as shoplifters literally walk out the door with cartfulls of unpaid for merchandise

With that said, as a teen I used to purposefully act as if I was shoplifting high-theft items when I knew the undercover LP guys were following me (as they did frequently) just to waste their time and piss them off. Now I know they were just doing their job, but back then It annoyed me that they profiled me
