I don't trust DeSantis anymore, but I'm all for child labor as long as it's not forced. As others here, I too worked at age 15 and younger. I learned much from it.

What's wrong with kids learning a work ethic in their teens?![]()
Child labor protections could soon be rolled back in Florida. Why?
DeSantis said that a younger workforce could be part of the solution to replace “dirt cheap” migrant labor.www.tampabay.com
I have seen few ideas better than Florida's effort to get kids into the work force. Why should they waste time after school by playing soccer and school team sports such as football and basketball.
Since Florida is doing their best to deport migrant workers, they need bodies to pick oranges, grapefruit and harvest other crops. Of course, for now, they don't want children working on roofs, but I bet that will change forthwith. Got to give DeSantis and the state legislature tons of credit for hitting on this idea. Why waste a resource you already have?; I bet parents will love the idea!
Bigly!!!
Good. The sooner kids learn a good work ethic, the better.![]()

Most kids sit around reading texts and social media apps on their smartphone. Why should they waste time after school by playing soccer and school team sports such as football and basketball.
Actually, working (light work, responsibility, etc.) builds character. That is what is missing in most kid's lives these days. I'm sure whatever Florida does will be done responsibly. I began working of sorts when I was 12. I can tell reading your posts that you didn't begin working until your 20s or 30s and your parents probably had to push you out of the door.Since Florida is doing their best to deport migrant workers, they need bodies to pick oranges, grapefruit and harvest other crops. Laws are needed to make sure that children are not abused in the work place.Allow or encourage kids to work. Certainly not "put kids to work" but that's how the left changes the dynamic of good ideas.
Lots of kids work...They get paid $18 per hour here to work at a gas station. The cheapskate who pay less cry about how no kids want to work. But they don't pay $18 per hour so they have trouble finding people. I say awesome to that.I started working at about 5 yrs old mowing grass with my older brother,,, by the time I was 10 I was doing that and throwing papers,,
at 11 I started working as a busboy in the italian steakhouse behind my house while throwing papers,
on weekends I would get off at 2 in the morning and go straight to my paper route,
I went on to washing dishes and line cook before I was 15 for other restaurants close to my house,,
I dont recall a time in my life as a kid where I didnt have a job and my own money,,
spent most saturdays roller skating and played football starting my freshman yr,,
kids no a days are to soft because we wont let them work,,
they should be paid what their work justifies not some BS min wage made up by some politician,,Want kids to work then pay up. They will work. Otherwise just get rid of the job.
Pay what the kid will accept. Or don't hire that's fine also.they should be paid what their work justifies not some BS min wage made up by some politician,,
how do you hire someone that wont work for what youre offering them??Pay what the kid will accept. Or don't hire that's fine also.
If you'd ever had a real job, you'd probably be a Trump supporter.Republicans – dragging America back into the dark ages.
It's because they got rid of too many immigrants. Now they have to put their kids to work those low-paying jobs.![]()

My bet is you're screwing yourself. You're going to pay for this terrible behavior.I was earning adult money at 13 during the summer break from school......In fact I had two jobs, one at the ice plant for 8 hours, and then I'd go home, eat supper, then put in four or five hours at the Tastee-Freeze.
I always had a jingle in my pocket and never had to beg off my parents.
It would be nice to see our kids working in eateries again instead of a bunch of fuckin' illegals.
You sound like my youngest brother, about your age. It turns out the reason for all his joints going bad is too much free iron in the blood, known as hemochromatosis. If you have light colored eyes you're a likely candidate. It's geneticAs one poster said we need to check the details. If there is a bad side to it , its this . I am 66 years old with worn out knee, hip, wrist , elbow and shoulder that gives me pain and doctor said I need to take it real easy or wind up in a wheel chair with some male nurse changing my diaper a few times a day. Physical labor is out for me for the most part. So there needs to be some sort of restrictions. As for me I worked sunup to sundown at hard physical labor but made an adult wage that helped my mom and dad greatly.
When I lived in Florida, both of my two older kids went to work in our local grocery store at age 14. My son worked there until he graduated high school. My daughter became the night shift head cashier when she turned 18 and worked a few more years.![]()
