Florida shows real genius, gonna put kids to work!

NaF; the fact is that by 14yo if a kid isn't bookish and headed to Uni then they should be working (Earnin' or learnin'), preferably an apprenticeship or traineeship.
That's what I did.
I spent part of my high school days in an apprenticeship school and earned credits for it
If not them then at least some work so they can learn a work ethic. I have no problem with that at all!!

MAJOR SHIFT 14-year-olds to pull overnight shifts as US state moves to roll back child labor laws & combat ā€˜dirt cheap’ migrant work

CHILDREN as young as 14 years old could be working overnight shifts under a new plan to roll back child labor laws. The proposal seeks to remove limits on how late teens can be at work and the number of hours they can clock each week.

Governor Ron DeSantis is backing a proposal to allow 14-year-olds to work overnight shifts. The bill would remove restrictions for 14- and 15-year-olds who are home-schooled or attend virtual school. In Florida, 16- and 17-year-olds are currently prohibited from working before 6:30 am and after 11 pm on school days. They are also barred from working more than 30 hours a week during the school year.

A new proposal would remove all of those restrictions - including the requirement that teens get a meal break, the Miami Herald reported.

Governor Ron DeSantis supports the measure and argues it’s a way to address what he calls "dirt cheap" labor from illegal immigrants.
Easy solution, Mac. Make those employing illegals pay health care, union fees, a living wage and all the privileges of being a US Worker with safety laws and so on. But you WANT the "dirt cheap" exploitation; you're a fraud!!!

I wasn't working for an employer, I was learning different trades.
I was "working" for my dad sometimes,a mason during that time.

Due to insurance, at the time, you couldn't be employed on a construction site if a person was under 18.
Doesn't mean you couldn't be there, it just means you weren't covered for worker's comp.
So generally, you couldn't be on site, legally.

Making "hounding your parents to let you work" great again. :)

LOL....I worked with a guy at the ice plant whose dad ran a local funeral home. We were 13 or 14 at the time.

I asked him one day when we were pulling ice why he was not working at the funeral home with his twin brother.

He said, "he can have painting-up stiffs, I don't want no part of it.....It's bad enough that I have to live there."

He was true to his word too; he went to college after HS and became a financial guru of some sort. He never did work at the funeral home.

I saw him a couple years back when his twin brother died (he had been running the funeral home for years by then) and asked if he was gonna take it over.....He said, "Hell no, it's in good shape and in good hands, I don't want any part of it!".

So much for the connection between twins. ;)

You are mad because teenagers are now given the choice of working more and different hours if they so choose? Weird.

Back in my day, all the farmers in my area hired "kids" to work. No illegals around. We can go back to that, if we choose to.

Oh I did slave labor for dad from age 10 to 15 for $0.00 not even an allowance. I also did some yard work in the neighborhood to earn money for my bike and spending at the hobby shop.

These lard ass Democrats amaze me how lazy they are.

Same here. I had to work the garden and various other chores all week including early Saturday mornings just to get a little roller skating money on Saturday afternoon. No allowance, just the ability to go skating. If I didn’t get my chores done, I didn’t go skating. Simple and I knew what I had to do to get what I wanted. I only resented it a little when I knew of some friends that didn’t have the same requirements, but a work ethic had already be engrained in me. Until then, I just figured it was a way of life. It seems like many Democrats of today were those kids who were given things for nothing and thus they expect it to continue their entire lives.

"Companies across the United States, regardless of existing labor laws, have employed migrant children in dangerous jobs, reports have shown. In January, meatpackers Perdue Farms and JBS agreed to pay a combined $8 million after the Department of Labor found the companies relied on the labor of migrant children in their slaughterhouses."

Save the migrant children by deporting them and their parents.

At 12 I was mowing lawns, had a paper route in which I was up passing papers in the dark, by myself, walking the neighborhood at 5:30am. I had to get up at 5:00am
At 14 I was detasseling corn, putting up hay and still mowing lawns.

THE HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How's about kud supposed to work 8 hours overnight and function in school?
This cannot be true. Do the jobs of the deported need to be filled? Probably not.

I can see Texas sending prisoners over to Florida to work the fields. We’re sending prisoners to El Salvador...renting out slave labor to another state is a very small step.

Apparently the bill doesn't make it clear whether or not the company's or the workers will be making that determination.

They definitely need to add language that makes it clear that such shifts must be 100% voluntary, and have full parental consent.

They also need to have language that allows companies to be heavily fined and punished if they do try to force these shifts on underage workers or punish underage workers for refusing to work overnight.
We have child labor laws for a reason.

Child labor was always ā€œvoluntaryā€ you dolts. It was also wrong

Clearly they do need to be filled.

Told ya so

We always do but you never listen

Only kids homeschooled or virtual schooled.

Kids is standard school not covered.

15th post
Sadly my youngest is now 20 and too old to work in Florida. Its a shame though because he could have used some overnight jobs when he was 14 to interfere with his school work. Maybe he'd be less studious now. Missed opportunities.

That makes it better?

In what world?

So some creep wants his kid to work the overnight shift and all he has to do is claim he’s ā€œhome schooling@??

Remember:

They don't care.
They absolutely don’t

In their minds it’ll happen to ā€œ those other peopleā€ā€¦ ya know… the poor ones no one cares about
