1. On this date, June 17th of 1856 The first National Republican Convention (Phila.). John Fremont receives 359 votes to become the first Republican Presidential Candidate.
Lost to Democrat Buchanan, who made a deal with the Supreme Court to keep escaped blacks as slaves.....insuring that there would be a Civil War.

2. March 20, 1854 In Ripon, Wisconsin, former members of the Whig Party meet to establish a new party to oppose the spread of slavery into the western territories. The Whig Party, which was formed in 1834 to oppose the “tyranny” of President Andrew Jackson, had shown itself incapable of coping with the national crisis over slavery.

3. Keep that raison d'être in mind when you hear Democrats proffering the lie that the two parties switched, and the Democrats gave up the bullwhip, lynching and slavery.
Watch me prove how truly stupid the 'flip' myth is:
You Democrats:
What the chances are that, after a lifetime of believing as you do, arguing DNC talking points, reading the NYTimes, and watching MSNBC, being indoctrinated...er, 'taught' in government schools, and watching Comedy Central for your news.....
.....what are the chances would be that you woke up tomorrow praising Donald Trump's election and presidency, and voting Republican......you know....'flipping.'

And that calculation represents the same chance that Republicans and conservatives, who formed a party to fight Democrats and slavery, suddenly decided to become racists.

4. January 21st,1813 John Charles Fremont born, He was the most famous pathmaker of the west: three major expeditions to the far west. First senator of California. First Republican candidate for the presidency, June 17,1856. Born in Savannah, Georgia on January 21, 1813, Fremont was one four major generals appointed by President Lincoln, he was easily the most celebrated. As a Union general, Fremont's major Civil War contribution was more political than military when he focused Union attention on the role emancipation should play in the North's war policy.

January 14th, 1847 John Charles Fremont concludes with Mexicans the Articles of Capitulation, ending the war in California, and leaving it permanently in US hands. (Might have been a mistake, huh?)

5. November 4th, 1856 Buchanan (45.4%) defeats Fremont (33 %) as Van Buren siphons off 21.6% of the vote running as the American Party (Know Nothings), which was rabidly anti-immigrant and anti-Catholic. The platform included:

Severe limits on immigration, especially from Catholic countries

Restricting political office to native-born Americans

Mandating a wait of 21 years before an immigrant could gain citizenship

Restricting public school teachers to Protestants

Mandating daily Bible readings in public schools

Restricting the sale of liquor

Democrats are EVIL??

There is no way to separate communism, socialism, Progressivism, the Democrat Party, and, therefore, no way to ignore their ties to Satan.
It is of interest that the godfather, maybe even the god, of the above, Karl Marx, had a fascination with Satan. Clearly, Marx believed in the existence of Satan.

Nor is Marx the only link to Satan on the Left.

And I recommend these.....

Ah, nothing like the smell of stupid in the morning.

I mean it is absolutely laughable to pretend that modern Republicans are Republicans because they want to follow the legacy of the Republican's party effort to free the slaves. The reality is modern Republicans have more in common with the Know Nothings than any party in American history.

Hell, I thought your listing of part of their platform was a proposal for the modern Republican platform.

And when I saw your trumpeting Fremont I really did laugh out lot. Your ignorance of history really does know no bounds. I mean I don't understand why you even bring him up. Your plagiarism of the Wiki article on Fremont is more than obvious, why did you leave out the numerous Indian massacres, his court-martial and dishonorable discharge, or the rampant corruption while he was a Union General. I mean hey, I said all along when Trump was nominated that he was Fremont all over again. What the Wiki article didn't tell you is that Fremont may have won the state of California from Mexico, but he didn't win it for the United States, he won it for John Fremont, fully intending to make it his own little fiefdom.

What is that unbearable smell.......????

Oh....it's you.

The scummy low-life liar that I exposed as follows: you wrote this-

"And there it is, you just revealed yourself a liar. A couple of years ago you claimed a degree from Brown." When You Are Missing The Ability To Learn.... post 48

You lied and I caught you in the lie.

I never said any such thing. There has never been any such claim by me.

I challenged you to prove it....and you simply slitered away.

There is a search function and you and anyone else can use it.

And there will be no such statement by me.

Because you are a low-life lying scum.

Are you ready to admit that you are lying scum and I never made the statement you just claimed I made?

Proven by the fact that no such statement exists.

And you will never be allowed to forget what a sack of offal you are.

I used the search function, you did claim that a close family member graduated from Brown, and Yale as well. And I trust my own memory more than any search function. But let's just agree to disagree and why don't you at least attempt to address the points made in my post. We can start with your plagiarizing of the Wiki article on Fremont, and then you can tell me why the sudden interest in an Indian massacrer, court-martialed, dishonorably discharged, corrupt individual that wanted to make California his own little fiefdom?

Are you now admitting that you lied when you made that claim about me.

BTW.....if we count extended family, cousins and all, I have six Ivy League grads in mine.

Five of the six are conservative....

And for your listening displeasure.....my alma mater's fight song:

You better jot all of this down, scummy liar.....

The claim that you have "extended" family members that attended Ivy League school bears no relevance to your own claims nor does it have any bearing on your intelligence. Kind of like the reality that the Republican party of the mid 19th century was against slavery has no bearing whatsoever on the current positions of that same Republican party.

But here is my problem, a real graduate of even Columbia university would not be posting a bunch of cut and paste articles, plagiarize Wiki, or commit the number of logical fallacies, that you do on a daily basis. Honestly, I find it hard to believe that any Ivy School graduate would fall for the Trump confidence game. And while you may play Columbia's fight song I don't believe you read the articles posted from the Alumni website, like this

Are you here to admit you made up that lie about me, and wish to apologize and promise to reform yourself?

If not, get lost, low-life.

It seems insults is all you have. It matters not rather you claim you went to Brown, or you claim you went to Columbia, I will contend that you didn't graduate from ANY college, and most certainly not an Ivy League school.

Your posts are mostly copy and paste, and as indicated from your repeated responses to me across various threads, you have a notepad full of favorite responses. And please, don't bother to go to your notepad and lift up your padded responses to "cut and paste".

In this thread you plagiarized the Wiki article on Fremont, an amateurish mistake that an Ivy League graduate should not make. I can understand not sourcing Wiki, but you could have documented the information by citing the Dictionary of American Biography, noted in the sources cited at the end of the Wiki article.

But the biggest problem is most of your posts are riddled with fallacies. In fact, your insistence that you have an Ivy League education is the foundation of an appeal to accomplishment fallacy. This thread begins with a Cum hoc ergo propter hoc, which is precisely what I pointed out from the beginning. One of your favorites is Begging the Question, as indicated by another thread you started today where you make the claim that your contention is "indisputable".

I mean here is the hard truth. You are not very good at this, really. I know you have your appeal to many on this messageboard, but if your fan base is full of a bunch of Trumpnuts, you are not really proving much. They are the low hanging fruit. In fact, you are not alone in capitalizing on their ignorance, but many other outlets are actually monetizing that capitalization. You might want to include a donate now button in your signature.

But honestly, I am really interested in why, or what, turned you to Fremont on this particular day. Was it an opinion article on Pajama Media? And I am here to tell you, it is really lame for Republican's to claim superiority because the original Republican party worked to eliminate slavery. Is that really relevant over 150 years later? What about the Civil Rights Act? What party did that, and more importantly, when? How can you claim superiority for something that happened more than 150 years ago when a little more than 50 years ago George Wallace was standing in front of a schoolhouse supporting segregation? It really makes no sense whatsoever. If anything, it is the political version of, "I have black friends", almost always a defense against obvious racism.

How many ways must I say it.....you are lying scum and I wish no interaction with you.

Find someone else to stalk.

"Cum hoc ergo propter hoc"
Is he allowed to say that here?

It's hard to get a handle on which side was which in the political turmoil in 19th century politics before and after the Civil War since most Americans probably can't identify the time of the "War of 1812" much less identify the political leadership. The dirty little secret is that both sides of the political debate were racist just as every other country and municipality and jurisdiction in the entire world was racist in the 17-18-and 19th century. The post war debate was about what the hell to do with the emancipated slaves who were born in the U.S. Ironically the Irish immigrants were no better off than emancipated slaves in the late 1800's and early 1900's but they had the advantage of their skin color for being able to pass as english.

It's reasonable to start with the 20th century when the KKK became the political muscle of the democrat party. The incredible bogus argument on behalf of historic revisionism that Southern democrats were really republicans in disguise. The advantage democrats have always had in the 20th century up to the present time is the mainstream media support. Thanks to the media, the democrat party was able to turn on a dime and pretend that they were the party of emancipation while they were and are still the party of plantation racists.

It seems we agree that Democrats lie about everything.
