1. On this date, June 17th of 1856 The first National Republican Convention (Phila.). John Fremont receives 359 votes to become the first Republican Presidential Candidate.
Lost to Democrat Buchanan, who made a deal with the Supreme Court to keep escaped blacks as slaves.....insuring that there would be a Civil War.
2. March 20, 1854 In Ripon, Wisconsin, former members of the Whig Party meet to establish a new party to oppose the spread of slavery into the western territories. The Whig Party, which was formed in 1834 to oppose the “tyranny” of President Andrew Jackson, had shown itself incapable of coping with the national crisis over slavery.
3. Keep that raison d'être in mind when you hear Democrats proffering the lie that the two parties switched, and the Democrats gave up the bullwhip, lynching and slavery.
Watch me prove how truly stupid the 'flip' myth is:
You Democrats:
What the chances are that, after a lifetime of believing as you do, arguing DNC talking points, reading the NYTimes, and watching MSNBC, being indoctrinated...er, 'taught' in government schools, and watching Comedy Central for your news.....
.....what are the chances would be that you woke up tomorrow praising Donald Trump's election and presidency, and voting Republican......you know....'flipping.'
And that calculation represents the same chance that Republicans and conservatives, who formed a party to fight Democrats and slavery, suddenly decided to become racists.
4. January 21st,1813 John Charles Fremont born, He was the most famous pathmaker of the west: three major expeditions to the far west. First senator of California. First Republican candidate for the presidency, June 17,1856. Born in Savannah, Georgia on January 21, 1813, Fremont was one four major generals appointed by President Lincoln, he was easily the most celebrated. As a Union general, Fremont's major Civil War contribution was more political than military when he focused Union attention on the role emancipation should play in the North's war policy.
January 14th, 1847 John Charles Fremont concludes with Mexicans the Articles of Capitulation, ending the war in California, and leaving it permanently in US hands. (Might have been a mistake, huh?)
5. November 4th, 1856 Buchanan (45.4%) defeats Fremont (33 %) as Van Buren siphons off 21.6% of the vote running as the American Party (Know Nothings), which was rabidly anti-immigrant and anti-Catholic. The platform included:
Severe limits on immigration, especially from Catholic countries
Restricting political office to native-born Americans
Mandating a wait of 21 years before an immigrant could gain citizenship
Restricting public school teachers to Protestants
Mandating daily Bible readings in public schools
Restricting the sale of liquor
