Chinas strength is way over stated. Not enough sea lift capability to easily take Taiwan. Nor does their navy have any blue water combat experience. Their knock off sea-borne fighter jets cannot even launch from their diesel powered aircraft carriers with more than half a payload. Going on about the number of boats in their navy is like extolling the virtues of the Spanish Armada.

If I was President I would recommend we provide firearms to all the civilians in Taiwan and lots of ammo. Of course training would be involved. Perhaps Americans could send firearms to Taiwan as we did in England in WWII. We have plenty to send.

There are 24,000,000 people on Taiwan. Some are too young but If half of the old enough to fight population of Taiwan was armed the Chinese would be facing perhaps 10,000,000 gun barrels.

They could bomb the hell out of the cities but there would still be snipers in the ruins. If every armed citizen on Taiwan were to kill just one Chinese soldier, the Chinese might decide the cost was too high.
