Taiwan.....an enigma

Eurotrash ships will not ignore the blockade. You seriously must be using some POS AI to come up with this illogical BS! Some of your posts ignore decades of history and simple facts.
Simple facts like our so-called Eurotrash allies stiffed us on their NATO defense budgets, ripped us off for years during Oil for Food, and you think they'll risk their commerce and well being because we ask? How naive are you? Being a Cold War relic has blinded you with silly nostalgia. Pathetic.

And? Seems to a good reason to develop and manufacture our own. Reliance on any foreign power is weakness we cannot afford. Globalization has failed us.
Giving up a reliable source to China is crazy. We don’t have to be #1 at everything. It’s not only impossible; it’s counterproductive.

No blood for Oil.
No blood for chips.

If we don't like being dependent on Taiwan for chips, we should start making them ourselves.

Now, during WWII, when the Japanese overran Southeast Asia, we found a substitute for rubber pretty quickly.
We only get blood, if we don’t step up know. China would never go against a united front of Taiwan, the US, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and S.Korea. They’re all effected by Chinese policy and deserve our backing.

When it comes to technology we should or strive to be the best. I agree, we don't need to the best basket weavers in the world or other lesser products. We cannot afford to be reliant on others though. That should be obvious.

NATO has upped their minimum percentage from 2 to 5 percent GDP for defense and you think that indicates NATO is weakening? Yes, the Chinese will suffer because it does not matter what they do, we would still sink Chinese cargo, no matter the flag. During the Gulf War, my ship stopped and boarded any vessel suspected of carrying war materials to Iraq, including those headed for Iraqi allied ports in the Red Sea. We even boarded and searched sheep carriers! Had they contained contraband materials, we would have seized the ship and cargo. That was after all the fighting on the ground had ceased! That wasn't the Cold War. That one was pretty hot! Stop talking about things you only know because you Googled them.

Well, first, I wouldn't count on Indonesia and Malaysia, both of which have pretty good relations with the Middle Kingdom.

No, they aren't "affected", and China remains the biggest trading partner for nearly all of them, including Taiwan.

This is a dispute between two countries calling themselves "China" over which one is really "China".

I'll take the one with 1.3 Billion Chinese as opposed to the one with only 23 million.

China is trying to take over the S.China Sea. Countries may be cordial with China, but relations are strained over maritime incursions. I’ll take the China that believes in democracy, but if you asked the majority in Taiwan they’d be willing to drop claims to China, IMO.

Well, gee, it's called the "South China Sea". (The Chinese just call it the South Sea.)

Yes, they are all bumping uglies.

Half of Taiwan's existence, it was a fascist dictatorship that threw in with South Africa and Israel.

Should point out, Taiwan makes the same claim to the South China Sea that Red China does.

(Does anyone still call it "Red China?" )

Why are you so defensive?

China is a dictatorship and has been for a long time.
Why are you angry with Taiwan to the effect you run only them down?

He sides with Communist China. He loves communism. He adores it. He despises freedom.

I'm not angry at Taiwan, I just don't think they are worth World War III.

Especially since, as much as they badmouth the mainland, the mainland is their biggest trading partner.

15th post
China is STILL a dictatorship and has thrown in with N.Korea. Check and mate!
So what?

Actually, China is the one place keeping North Korea from doing anything really stupid.

Also, China isn't nearly as tyrannical as you guys like to think it is.

I watch Chinese media with the Mrs. all the time. Frankly, it's not terribly different than American media.
