Great headline: "Ex-Informant Accused of Lying About Bidens Said He Had Russian Contacts"

Reminds me that Muller said Trump and others were misrepresenting what he found in the way of dealings with Russia.

We always seem to come back to Russia, with the Trump people/Biden haters.

Prove me wrong, if you disagree.

real news org: Ex-Informant Accused of Lying About Bidens Said He Had Russian Contacts

Federal prosecutors portrayed the former informant, Alexander Smirnov, 43, as a serial liar incapable of telling the truth about even the most basic details of his own life.

A former F.B.I. informant accused of making false bribery claims about President Biden and his son Hunter — which were widely publicized by Republicans — claimed to have been fed information by Russian intelligence, according to a court filing on Tuesday.

In the memo, prosecutors portrayed the former informant, Alexander Smirnov, 43, as a serial liar incapable of telling the truth about even the most basic details of his own life. But Mr. Smirnov told federal investigators that “officials associated with Russian intelligence were involved in passing a story” about Hunter Biden.

Those disclosures, including Mr. Smirnov’s unverifiable claim that he met with Russian intelligence officials as recently as three months ago, made him a flight risk and endangered national security, Justice Department officials said. Mr. Smirnov had been held in custody in Las Vegas, where he has lived since 2022, since his arrest last week.

No surprise, of course, if the reports are correct. From the article:

The former FBI informant charged with fabricating claims about a bribery scheme involving Joe Biden, his son Hunter and a Ukrainian energy company has "extensive" contacts with Russian intelligence agencies, according to the Justice Department.

Federal prosecutors also say in a new court filing that Alexander Smirnov admitted to authorities after he was arrested that "officials associated with Russian intelligence were involved in passing a story" about President Biden's son, Hunter Biden.

Smirnov, a longtime FBI informant, was arrested last week and charged with making false statements and creating a false and fictitious record.

This won't matter to the faithful, of course, and it will be called "fake news". Or maybe Smirnov actually works for George Soros. Or Hillary. Anyone but PUTIN.

The guy was an FBI informant, paid informant, for years. Congress only used what the FBI said they had vetted from Smirnov.

And this has zero effect on prosecuting Hunter.

Also, Smirnov was released on a personal recognizance bond.

And from the OP:

In his detention memo, Smirnov's attorneys argued that the FBI had known of Smirnov's alleged conduct for years, "yet took no steps to end his cooperation, seize his passports, or prosecute him for anything."

Simply from reading his name one could tell he had Russian ties.

The fact he was a trusted paid russian informant, well that was also a sign he had russian ties

The fact he provided evidence against xiden…well that’s a obvious sign why the demafacist have decided to prosecute him

He admitted to lying. He made the "evidence" up.

I guess you missed that part. Or, more likely, you don't care.

At what point did these people stop caring if something is actually real or not?

How in the world did Trump do this to them?
Sunk cost fallacy.

In order to be a Trump supporter you truly had to give up adherence to a lot of principles. This in order to "own the libs". Trump made the people they hate mad, so Trump is good.

The problem is that the more you make that bargain, the harder it becomes to find justifications, to the point that they now have kind have given up on reality.

They perceive it as a choice between acknowledging reality and say that they've been wrong all along.

Or simply don't. And hold on to their identity.

...and the fact that this has become about far more than politics for them makes it even worse, and more difficult to give up.

Yes, Reid's lies about Romney, and then admitting them, was one of the shittiest things I've seen from a politician.

And you "learned" from this. You're no better than those you despise.

And this is why we're on the precipice. It's a race to the bottom, and we're almost there.

Giving up on reality is a forgone conclusion with any partisan. The ludicrous notion that one side or one party owns all the evil is the way those who pull the puppet strings for all partisans keep firm control of the clueless masses. This includes you.

Despite your intellectual condescencion which you somehow imagine places you in the spectator's box you have described not only your opponents but also yourself with your self adulating cleverness.
