I don't think EV's were ever actually meant to replace ICE vehicles.
What they ARE is a vehicle to install greater control over the common man.
Hydrogen powered cars are receiving almost zero media attention.....because that would be a REAL solution but would not provide the control desired.

Another glaring but ALWAYS ignored solution is.......
To stop making ICE vehicles with excessive power and make them with just enough power to do the job.
Why the hell does a single mom's Camry need 300HP to take the kids to school and go get groceries?
And why does the young man need a 460HP Mustang to get to work?
There are billions of barrels of fossil fuels WASTED every year because a vehicle that only needs 60HP has 400HP.
We DO NOT NEED 800HP passenger cars being driven around with ONE PERSON in them. Massive waste of resources.

Humans are so arrogant and hedonistic they can't see the obviousness of it.
The actual supply of crude oil and fossil fuels in pools of reserves in the Earth is NOT unlimited. Yet it is being used as though it IS unlimited.
At some time in the future human kind will run out of fossil fuels because of present day stupidity instead of adopting a far more conservative use of fossil fuels and extending their availability perhaps thousands of years into the future while simultaneously lowering emissions.
Why the hell are humans so God Damned stupid?!?!

Realistically, interstate travel for a family of 5 could be accomplished in a 75HP vehicle with a small 3 cyl engine just as timely and comfortably as a vehicle doing the exact same thing but with 300-500hp. The excess power is just human vanity and excess.
No one wants to deal with the obvious. It's too lucrative to satisfy human arrogance and excess.

Only trucks and commercial vehicles hauling cargo and certain passenger vehicles towing heavy loads need all that extra power and THAT small requirement could be met with dedicated purpose electric motors.

No, there is absolutely ZERO real desire to "save the planet". It's all a scam pulled over the eyes of the limited thinkers for the purpose of controlling you and everyone else.

Good post! We need to be smarter about fossil fuel. I'm not sure about going doing down to 75 HP but we sure don't need 500 HP muscle cars and massive pickup trucks. But it's all about marketing and ego.

That's the problem with fully electric vehicles: once the battery dies or is trashed, you've got no car. Hybrids can switch over to ICE and replacement batteries are usually a bit cheaper.

This post has been 'liked' by a lot of people I disagree with and I appreciate it. But here's the reason I wrote it. I'm an environmentalist. I don't deny man-made climate change - it's very real and it's about to get real in ways we can't imagine.

But the premise behind the switch to EVs is just all wrong on so many levels. The main problem is that it's advertised as some kind of savior for the environment. But it's not - at least not in the short term. We can't just switch to green energy and expect significant reduction of greenhouse gases.

Why?

1. Extracting the metals required for batteries involves a ton of fossil fuels.

2. We don't control the electric power supply chain. China does. And this is the "Oh shit" moment.

Prices of most ICE cars have surged; prices of EVs are actually going in the opposite direction. Still, major challenges remain, like scaling, getting access to raw materials, improving reliability, etc. Moreover, EVs are not as "green" as people think they are. A lot of fossil fuels are used in the mining process.

I really don't believe that report. If the Biden administration is spending 3 million/day, that would take at LEAST 1 1/2 years to equal 2 billion. So, the math looks fuzzy. And, it's money that is being taken from the DOD, but it's not really clear how that money is being taken, what it's for, or how it is being used. This sounds like sensational yellow journalism (you conservatives call it "fake news"), and the figures don't really add up. Took me going through the first article, then a second linked one, and I finally got to the report, which as I said, is fuzzy at best.

Cellblock, it didn't "shut me up" as you assert, because unlike your assumptions of me, I actually do have a life outside of USMB, and was doing stuff away from the computer. Sorry that I can't be here 24/7 as you seem to think I should.

And finally, Viktor, sorry about your friend. Yes, motorcycles CAN be dangerous, but if a person is smart about how they ride, they can log many miles without any problem. Me? I've logged 10's of thousands of miles on bicycles AND motorcycles. Rode a bicycle for over 10 years as my only mode of transportation (logging in 50 - 100 miles/day) and rode a motorcycle for around 10 years (a Honda for a couple of years and a Harley for another 7 or so) as my only transportation. Rode it three times from Amarillo TX to Sturgis SD to attend the bike rally, and never had a problem. Had a close call or two (scariest one was outside Durango CO when a soccer mom tried to make me her hood ornament) but never suffered a crash. A friend of mine told me a truth that has stuck with me ever since I heard it..................there are old bikers and there are bold bikers, but there ain't very many old, bold bikers. Ride safe and smart, and you won't run into problems. I happen to prefer riding a scooter, and don't consider myself to be careless or foolish. It is highly possible to ride and not risk your life, as long as you remember that you don't have protection around you and keep that thought with you always.

The only serious vehicle wreck I've ever had was in a car when a taxi in Norfolk ran a stop sign and I t-boned him. Fortunately, neither I nor the passenger were hurt, but having the transmission suddenly show up in the middle of the front seats can be disconcerting to say the least. And yeah, the taxi had to pay for a new car.
