I agree with Maher for the most part here. I've never had a problem with calling it the Wuhan Flu or Chinese flu. But calling it the Kung Flu, etc is most definitely racist.

Also, someone should have informed Bill that the Spanish Flu came from a pig farm in Kansas.

The thing is Bill Maher has always done this. His policy views may be left wing, but he's always been honest about his opinions and doesn't mince his words and he's attacked the left plenty of times for their hypocrisy, which is why I've never understood the conservative hand wringing when it comes to him.

"Wu Flu" is cute, as wordplay. "Kung", which is not a place, doesn't identify what the subject is, and neither does "Chinese". But "Wuhan" is very specific, unless we know of multiple viruses from Wuhan. So actually "Wu Flu" works fine as a shorthand, and as an appreciator of fine jeux de mots, I'd say well done.
