Depends on their magazine capacity. Hunters are usually sporting types in the sense they like to give the animal a chance. I find hunting for fun repugnant, but for food or pest control okay. If they really want to use their 'skill' to bring down an animal I'm sure they'd only want a firearm that doesn't have a massive magazine. And from my understanding most semi auto hunting rifles don't.

The much hated AR-15 is often used by ranchers for varmint hunting - Coyotes and such. That's because it's the perfect caliber - big enough to kill a coyote with a single shot, but not with a huge kick like a 30-06. The ability to carry a lot of rounds is also a plus.
