EU plans to hit U.S. imports with duties from July

EU members have given broad support to a European Commission plan to set 25 percent duties on up to 2.8 billion euros (2.4 billion pounds) of U.S. exports in response to what is sees as illegal U.S. action. EU exports that are now subject to U.S. tariffs are worth 6.4 billion euros.

“The Commission expects to conclude the relevant procedure in coordination with member states before the end of June so that the new duties start applying in July,” Commissioner Maros Sefcovic told a news conference on Wednesday after he and other commissioners endorsed the plan for duties on U.S. imports.

And

U.S. products on the list include orange juice, bourbon, jeans, motorcycles and a variety of steel products.

But it isnt just Europe.

The European Union, Canada and Mexico have all responded after U.S. President Donald Trump last Friday ended their exemptions from tariffs of 25 percent for steel and 10 percent for aluminium.

Canada has announced it will impose retaliatory tariffs on C$16.6 billion ($12.9 billion) worth of U.S. exports from July 1. Mexico put tariffs on American products ranging from steel to pork and bourbon on Tuesday

But this is the bit that made me chuckle.

Some of the products chosen are designed to target states of senior Republicans who are seeking to retain control of both chambers of Congress in hotly contested November elections.

I think that many exporters will be doing just that.

Yeah, but here in Europe. The US is about 25% of the world market. If they think they can make that up in China, I wish them well.

This is great news for America and Trump. Now Trump can hit the sob's harder with tariffs, especially their luxury vehicles from Germany. A quick 25% hit on a $100k vehicle would be great for the treasury.

The rats don't like having to foot the Bill after decades of exploitation.

You seem to love the US now under trump. Would you be happier with a dictator in Canada.

He is hardly a dictator. He is forcing other nations to embrace capitalism or go fly a kite. If he doesn't U.S wages will continue to plummet as China forces a race to the bottom. Canada, China, Mexico are not engaging in capitalism. EU is protectionist as well, no more breaks for those who abuse the U.S.

Perhaps, but why do they think they should be exempt?

The point is dumbo, nobody wins a trade war.

No German forces any citizen of the USA to buy a German car. You try to force the citizens of the USA not to buy German cars. But Porsche anyway stopped the production of cars in the moment. You are lucky if you are able to buy one.

A quick 25% hit on a $100k vehicle would be great for the treasury.

One moment. "Rats"? Do you call us "rats"? The greatest exporter of cars "made in the USA" is BMW. But Trump makes steel and aluminium more expensive in the USA. What to do now? It's somehow strange to see the USA realizing a socialistic politics. You seem not to be convinced any longer to be able to make good cars on your own. We - "the Germans" - were convinced US-citizens are able to do so and we were right. We sell German cars made in the USA worldwide. Why do you do not the same on your own? This would be a better question. The idea of Trump US-Americans should buy more Chevies. Take a look where Chevrolet is producing. In the USA? Chevrolet was some time ago Daewoo.

This is the list of goods that the EU has imposed tariffs on.

Motor bikes to motor boats, orange juice, clothing, cranberries, rice, sweetcorn and on and on and on.

And now Japan joins forces with Europe to kick that cretins flabby arse.

Trump Unites U.S. Allies — in Opposition to His Trade Policies

“Japan and the EU will team up on this issue and call on cooperation from other countries,” Japanese Trade Minister Hiroshige Seko told reporters Tuesday. Mr. Seko noted that Japan and the EU had issued a statement critical of the U.S. after he and EU Trade Commissioner Cecillia Malmström met in Paris last week. “This is an unusual step,” he said.

I saw an article this week whch attributed much of Americas economic performance to increased export growth. Well done Donny you fuckin muppet.

The EU is a fcking joke.
Ha! Ha, I remember that Europe absolutely wanted to counter the USA with the Euro becoming a power but what they really did against the USA is really to boycott American products in addition to the Euro while France and Germany should not be surprised at the return of the medal by annoying the giant he woke up

Of all the EU exports to the entire world, 22% of them or over 1/5 are shipped and sold to the US.

Of all the USA exports to the entire world, only 8% are shipped to all the EU countries combined.

We will see who hurts first. these are the facts for 2017

Example; We charge you 2.5% of value to ships cars here, you charge us 29% of value to ship cars there.

We have a 146 billion trade deficit with the EU, Fix it.
