Those Republicans warned that what was being proposed would in fact increase the cost of most Middle Class people's healthcare while lessening the quality of care.

As I recall the shutdown was caused because the republicans wanted to postpone the implementation of obamacare. Obama refused to worked with republicans then went on his own and deeded himself King to postpone obamacare exactly as the republican originally requested.
