3-Years ago we had to file paper Income Tax forms because our eFile was rejected becuase someone had filed a return with her SSN.

If there were no checks in the system, how did they know the SSN had been used?

(It took a couple of months, but it was eventually cleared as a case of someone attempting identity theft.)

And to compound the problem, some states actually use the ss# as the State drivers' license number, and they will end up on the voter pool lists.Some states have made a career out of exporting illegals with dls to other states.

Back during the Vietnam War era, our SS number was also our military serial number. There's a shit-ton of surplus military gear and documentation out there that has people's names and SS numbers on it.
