Well this is an interesting development. Apparently the Social Security system has many duplicate numbers, which may be resulting in massive fraud. I recently underwent a First Advantage background check for employment, and an anomaly was reported in the Social Security Number Verification from Experian. It reported a former name with a slightly different first name and different middle initial. The remark on the credit report stated "SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER REPORTED MORE FREQUENTLY FOR ANOTHER CONSUMER." I thought it was curious, because I've never used a different name.

Elon Musk has just discovered this, it's probably just the tip of the iceberg.

When I was working work comp claims, I handled cases involving a number of illegals. In almost all those cases in tracing the medical history of these people, I found that many, maybe most were using multiple social security numbers with just a little variance of the name for each. Picking up medical information from various E.R. visits, doctors, etc. the listed social security number and listed address was different on each one.

That means these guys were making up the numbers out of whole cloth or were using somebody else's SS number.

You may think it great if they are working and paying into your social security account by using your number. But not so great if they are arrested for committing some crime and all of a sudden you find yourself tied to that crime via your SS number or your SS number is associated with a default on a loan wrecking your credit etc.

Has it ever occurred to you that if the system is not keyed solely on SS#, which is obviously isn’t, 2 or more people with the same SS# could be getting W-2s in their names received to their home address? For example, SS# 123-45-6789 could be assigned to John Simpson and Jane Farley and would be seen as two distinct entries in the database.

Correct. However when the IRS ran the Tax Return accounting for Entity A (John Simpson, SS# 123-45-6789), they would know that Wages/Salaries reported for Entity B (Jane Farley, SS# 123-45-6789) were missing because (a) of the lack of income documents and (b) the lack or correlation with the reported W-2's coming from two different employers.

John's is missing the W-2 from Employer B and Jane's is missing the W-2 from Employer A.

In addition the IRS will Error out multiple tax forms submitted for the same entity (ID'd by SSN).

So the Database will Error Trap the data in multiple ways:

• Missing W-2 reported Income on a Tax Return,
• Attempts as filing multiple for the same Entity (ID's by SSN).

And the IRS kicks out the return when you don't have W-2's that correlate to your S.S. upon filing your taxes.

Evidently not since this is really a wide spread problem. The W-2s are just processed with the filed return. It's discovered because someone looked. Where did you think illegals got the social security numbers they give?

And to compound the problem, some states actually use the ss# as the State drivers' license number, and they will end up on the voter pool lists.Some states have made a career out of exporting illegals with dls to other states.
