Eileen Gu and birthright citizenship

Well, she WAS 'against' us since she was competing against us.

Was she competing against the US?

How many athletes do you think are competing for their countries, and how many are doing it for themselves, but to compete in the Olympics they just have to stick their country's name against their name?

Let's be realistic about this, it's sport. It's not war.

think you're a little misinformed.

China is a country of "hey, we have this law, but it's rather inconvenient right now, so we'll ignore it", there's easily a chance that she has duel citizenship. Or she could have given up her US citizenship.
There's easily "a chance" she has dual citizenship? There is zero evidence for that. What is FACT is she a US citizen by birth and she HAS NOT renounced her US citizenship. Those are the facts. China issued her a passport because they want medals and she can deliver them and they paid her millions to compete on the Chinese Olympic team.

Oh, this is fun

"“I certainly think that somebody who grew up in the United States of America, who benefited from our education system, from the freedoms and liberties that make this country a great place, I would hope that they want to compete with the United States of America,” "

DJ Vance thinks that people born in the US are American and should compete for America.

Oh, the irony. They want to stop Chinese kids born in the US from being US citizens, and then criticize Chinese kids born in the US who then compete for China at the winter Olympics.

It's all a bit weird.
People born in America to American citizen parents are American.

What part of that confuses you so much?

I’ve not seen any indication that she was not considered for the American team.

Nobody seems to have a problem that she was paid millions by China to compete for China.
Nobody seems to mind Trump lining his pockets while president (ever hear of conflict of interest), but soon as an athlete starts worshiping Trump's god (money), suddenly there's an issue.

But she chose to compete for China. She was already competing for America. She could have competed for America this year. She chose not to.

Given what a racist place America is turning into, who can blame her.

She has also spoken out strongly against anti-Asian hate in this country.

If that chinese woman does not want to represent the u s, she is welcome to represent whoever she wants. better yet, go live in that country that she is proud to represent. Don't let the door hit you on your flat ass on the way out.
Wow, tell me again how you aren't a racist, Seymour, that shit never gets old.

You clearly don't know China.

Actually, as someone who is married to a Chinese National, I can tell you in no uncertain terms that China does not allow dual citizenship. If you become a Chinese citizen, you have to give up whatever citizenship you had in your home country. Conversely, if you become a US citizen, you have to give up your Chinese citizenship.

How soon are you leaving? Why are you subjecting someone else to American racism?

I was taught in my Army EO training that we are all prejudiced.

My assumption that this winter olympian has a flat ass comes from all the time she has spent sitting on a ski lift chair, as opposed to a gymnist for example, who would have well developed glutes.

Your jumping to her being Asian as my meaning, only shows your own acceptance of false racial stereotypes.

I

I have dual citizenship. Nobody cares
Me too.

And I also don’t care that Ms. Gu played for the peoples’ republic of China.

But her mom was an American citizen. So she is too. Her dad was Chinese. So, she may also have dual citizenship.

Wow, really, that's what you are going with, eh?

Not that you got caught saying something racist.

Yes I know the history, but she was born and raised here and enjoyed all of the privileges of going to our school system, and enjoying the fruits of a free capitalist society.

I don't agree with your last comment, in that it's one thing to be an American in business and collecting Chinese dollars, millions of Americans are doing that, but it's another thing to don their uniforms and compete for a communist nation against the country that has given her so much.
In my book the only thing for her to do now, is to PERMANENTLY leave the U.S. and live in China.
That kind of nationalism worked in the 60s
USA, USA, USA

Now there is money to be made and an athlete who is able to play for two countries will do so.
How much money they can make plays heavily.

Not much money to be made from a Gold Medal in Half Pipe in the US
China offered a windfall

It is not just Americans following the money. The U.S. Olympic team also has foreign born athletes

Kind of mixed feelings here.

It used to be that paid athletes were banned from the Olympics. The Olympics were supposed to be for enthusiastic amateurs. This is why Jim Thorpe got into trouble when it was discovered he had played professionally.

Now it's who can afford the best athletes, not even the nationals of their respective countries.

Gu Ailing is at least of Chinese ancestry, so less of an issue there.

Well, I pointed it out because it’s democrats who are so anti capitalist and hate the rich, and I think it’s…odd that one would support an American who COULD compete for America, choosing to compete for another country and making millions on it.

What has trump used the presidency to enrich himself. If he has, then I’d say that is wrong

We are not anti capitalist
We just believe they should pay more taxes and treat their workers better

Dems don't hate the rich. They know that the end game of all the rich lining their pockets at the expense of others is third-world shit holes like in African, Asia and South America. The rich in those countries are super rich while everyone else lives in poverty. For some reason uber conservatives think this is okay.

I finally had the inclination to take a second to look it up. According to what I read she has a Chinese passport and became a Chinese citizen in 2019.

Well, such information doesn't seem to be that reliable. It's not that important to many people, other than Eileen Gu.
