The Department of Justice confirmed Tuesday that federal law enforcement agents are investigating who is behind coordinated riots in cities across the country.

The Department has been working overtime to identify, charge and arrest hundreds of rioters. Last week, 74 individuals were charged in Portland with a series of federal crimes.

“Violent agitators have hijacked any semblance of First Amendment protected activity, engaging in violent criminal acts and destruction of public safety,” U.S. Attorney Billy Williams released in a statement. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office and our federal law enforcement partners are expeditiously working with local and state law enforcement to identify, arrest, and prosecute these individuals that are disrupting the rule of law in our communities and physically attacking our law enforcement officers and destroying property. Violent agitators not only delay real reform, but make our community less safe by keeping law enforcement from responding to other critical calls for service.”

Total - National:
300 arrested
302 charged

Portland:
100 arrested
76 charged

We are talking about federal crimes here, federal agents cannot and should not be arresting or prosecuting people for violating local laws. But there are federal laws in play here, such as attacking federal agents or damaging federal property, among other things. There are limits to what the feds can do, and if the state governors and mayors refuse to ask for help or deploy their Natl Guard, then it's all on them. Blaming any of this on Trump is bullshit, this is about democrats abandoning their citizens for political reasons.

I hope they were careful to vet every officer, before they were made part of the team.

We have seen that dem leaning agents, in the fbi, for example, will put partisan loyalty ahead of their professional or legal responsibilities.

Yep, and federal prisons is where they should be sent so they won't be back out on the streets the next day. That's been another failure of our judicial system in which has been caused by activist judges whom have violated their oaths of office big time.

Time to re-open or rebuild some of our closed institution's, otherwise be it our federal prison's or mental institution's.

FEDS BEGIN PROSECUTING RIOTERS IN PORTLAND

Federal prosecutors have started filing civil disorders charges against violent protesters in Portland, Oregon. They are filing the charges under a federal statute enacted in 1968 in response to the rioting of that era. It’s interesting, I think, that the Congress that passed this statute was controlled by Democrats. In 1968, the GOP was outnumbered in both chambers to a much greater degree than it is now.

Back then, Democrats were serious about stopping riots. These days, they prefer to give rioters space to destroy. That space is turning out to be wherever the hell they please.

In Portland, the following three people have been charged by the feds under the 1968 law:

A 38 year-old Seattle man, Jesse Herman Bates, is accused of launching a ball bearing with a slingshot during a downtown demonstration in July and striking a Portland Fire Bureau medic.
That bastard should get at least 5 years for that.
A Portland woman, 31 year-old Michelle Peterson O’Connor, is accused of throwing a helmet that struck a police sergeant in the head last week outside the Police Bureau’s North Precinct.
And 5 years for that
A Kelso man, Krystopher Michael Donnelly age 27, is accused of repeatedly using a hammer to strike the glass above the front door of the Police Bureau’s East Precinct and elbowing an officer in the face in early August and then throwing frozen eggs and other objects at police three days later outside the Penumbra Kelly Building on East Burnside Street.
And 5 years for that.

The Oregonian reports that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland is reviewing other cases for possible prosecution. In addition, charges have been filed under the same statute in half a dozen other cities, according to the Oregonian.

Leftists, and some conservatives, object to the feds becoming involved. They reason that if the violence in question isn’t directed against federal property or federal officers, prosecution should be left to state and local authorities under statutes and ordinances that prohibit specific behavior — e.g., assault and arson — even though the actions of the rioters often aren’t garden variety instances of assault and arson.

I don’t seem to hear this kind of objection from leftists when the Justice Department gets involved under federal civil rights statutes in cases involving violence against Blacks that local prosecutors are fully capable of prosecuting.

ILocal authorities aren’t adequately protecting the rights of their constituents.

I'd charge them all with attempted murder and domestic terrorism. Day by day, more felony convictions for more and more leftists getting these dirtballs off the street.

Let them suck on that the rest of their life when they finally get out and have to get a job.

Of course, none of this scum was ever going to amount to anything anyway.

Well, if the local governments won't interfere with the looters, rioters, arsonists and those that assault others, then the federal government should step in. Lawlessness cannot be tolerated. People are losing their businesses because of lame leftist politicians like Portland's Mayor, Ted Wheeler, who instruct their law enforcement to stand-down during such events. If I were the Chief of Police in Portland, I would tell the Mayor, that, "Our department is required to enforce any and all laws that are currently on the books. If you don't want them enforced, go through our state government and get them changed. Until then, we're arresting all criminals, regardless of race or gender."

Great points, especially the relying upon the feds to implement civil rights investigations when things go wrong within a state, but somehow it's different when it comes to other crime's in which rise to the same levels in the country, and from within these state's. Enjoyed my read.

They are federal civil rights laws...... that the feds ARE suppose to police.

The federal govt charging some woman with federal assault for throwing her Helmut, which hit a police officer, not a federal agent, but a local cop....

is a federal gvt over reach and will be thrown out in court.

A waste of money and time in our court system and an OVERREACH, by the authoritarian Federal Gvt.

Showmanship...it's a Show.

They were sparked because criminal gangs run most police departments, and do things that no free people will allow:
