I would assume the counselors had cell phones. Anyone who has seen the footage of the flooding, and has been there before knows just how huge this flood is. That river is typically about 50-75 ft wide and you can walk across most of it. Huge tubing place.

Even with warnings people were going to die in this.

I can confirm, I was able to read enough of the PDF for the rules for camp mystic, ALL electronic items are banned. Even phones with sim cards removed, so these kids had NO WAY of knowing what was coming. We could have hired a million NWS employees, the kids were still cut off from the world.

Doge taking a chain saw to our weather monitoring and warning systems and to FEMA has made the tragedy of the Texas flood even worse than it had to be. Those agencies were in place for a reason, and should have never been degraded by someone who didn't even understand why we need those agencies.


Yes, it's quite possible that victims of the recent Texas flood could have received earlier or more effective warnings if not for cuts and policy shifts tied to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and former President Donald Trump's administration.
