No doubt evangelicals have become a major force in politics. Their rise to power was fueled by groups like the Moral Majority and their insistence that character matters. Jimmy Carter was said to be unfit for the presidency because one of his interviews was published in Playboy magazine. Clinton's affair with an intern was seen as a personal affront to all that is good. With Trump, character doesn't seem to matter. Evangelicals are even proud of his lapses in honesty claiming that God is using a flawed man to do his will. Does character still matter, or does it just not matter for trump?

It was Reagan's political campaign team who got the evangelicals to rally around nationalism....and indeed, people were weary of hearing the rhetoric of how horrible this nation was....when it really was not. People were also tired of working hard and getting poorer and poorer as jobs vanished overseas with rampant inflation eating away at the wages of those who still had jobs.

Clinton's affair with an intern? That was the least of the issues surrounding his Presidency....his blatant and obvious lying under oath was. His excuses became a national joke "It depends upon what your definition of "is" is". Especially when anyone else who tried such a stunt would have been buried under the jail.
And it wasn't just one affair....it was the string of affairs and then public destruction and humiliation of his former sexual partners he coerced into sex.

Trump? He in truth is guilty of business bullying to get his way and having a huge ego that matches his wallet. Not exactly illegal and isn't outrageous behavior. The charges of rape or sexual battery? Uhhhh....the accusing woman has HUGE issues with character and believability. IOW....she is NOT credible.

So where Trump acts like the biggest Hedonist on the planet he does have more morality than your two examples ever did. Trump is full of hot air....sometimes. He is definitely predictable....you know when he is full of it and when he is not. And when he is not he is not playing games he cant win. He can and has and will continue to humiliate opponents.

Outside the White House, decent guy...inside, absolutely paralyzed. Every special interest and big money player was allowed to have whatever they wanted EXCEPT for anything to do with the military....while literally millions of jobs evaporated over our borders he did nothing to stop it or even mitigate it. The USA almost lost the entirety of manufacturing. He tied the hands of the federal reserve to intentionally keep inflation high. He slept while Koch brothers cornered the market on Silver...the SEC and FTC officials were absolutely asleep at the wheel while the corruption ran free and unchallenged.
(One of the things he regretted the most if you ever went to Plains, GA and talked with him personally instead of guessing his morality from the anonymity of the internet)
