I'm an independent, but I feel like if Conservatives continue to carry the same social views, they will eventually die out, since the social views in America have become more progressive. I'm not sure though, since there are so many other components. What do you think?

It is also very likely to be seen in the 65+ age group soon since baby boomers are not as hard core conservative as the silent gens. Older generations are just generally "more conservative" they don't turn that way.

The biggest change a person undergoes politically/ideologically is when they're 16 to 24 years old. After that the further up in age you go the less and less change you tend to see.

The lower taxes line doesn't sell as well as it did in the 1980's.

Political parties didn't exist at the time of framing the constitution.

Third parties are problematic for the electoral college because they unavoidably divide one side of the vote more than the other. In essence a third party that's more aligned with the left actually ends up helping the right, or vice versa.

Conservatives are hitching their wagon to the star of mid-term elections while ignoring history. Every two term President since WWII has lost control of Congress in the final midterm of their administrations. History was not made in November, it was repeated.

But you have a point. America's social views have shifted from the Conservative point of view. But again, history is not being made, but repeated. Social Conservatism has always been behind the curve of history.. Conservatives provided the resistance to each and every societal change ever. From slavery through child labor and worker's rights, through woman's suffrage to Civil Rights and through the woman's movement of the 1970s to gay rights today, if anyone resisted the natural flow of freedoms, the social conservatives were there, banking the fires of the status quo. Ultimately they fail. Twas ever thus.
