My parents were "social drinkers" of the "greatest generation." By today's standards, they were both alcoholics, as were basically all of their social circle. They drank more in a good month than I have had since I turned 21 in 1970.

Many people in my family have also been described as alcoholic, but I never could see the point. An "acquired taste" is something that you have to force yourself to take at first, then you (might) come to like it. In that regard, it's just like smoking.

I could never see the point of either one.

Incidentally, whilst we were out having dinner the other day, my wife asked for a glass of wine, the cost of which proved to be nineteen and ninety-five hundredths of a dollar. I thought I would have a ******* heart attack. Needless to say, I don't drink when I'm out.
