By today's definition, both my parents were "alcoholics." Functioning well, but depending on a steady flow of beer and later mixed drinks to get through the day. All four of my siblings have been considered alcoholics at various times in their lives. Now, my one brother will sometimes have a glass of wine; that's it.

I got drunk for the last time in 1973, and simply decided I never would that again, and I haven't. I have a drink a couple times a year, when it would be awkward not to.

I seriously do not see the point. I have NEVER had the thought that "I need a drink." It was a common statement in my house when I was growing up.
I understand. Mine did not consider themselves alcoholics because they would sometimes make it until 5:00 before they got drunk.

I did until I got pancreatitis which they claimed was probably due to drinking.

I never want to go through that again so goodbye to drinking.
But pancreatitis is fun!

My family was all heavy drinkers and all could be considered alcoholics, I drank just to get drunk hated the taste of alcohol but looked forward to being drunk I would get drunk about 6 or 7 times a year I was a Marine joined in 79 got married in 83 had kid in 84 so in 1984 at the Marine Corps Ball I had my last drink. I decided I was not going to be a drunk it would affect my career and my family too much. Haven't had a drink since.

Says the folks who still partake in Molly Meth Chronic and Dickle
Not at all. I partake and have pretty much my entire adult life. I also believe in self control. All of these folks who have chosen to abstain have admitted they don't have that control and as a result they have chose a life of sobriety. More power to them. Often times---and some of these folks demonstrate that they are judgemental on others that choose other lifestyles. Just sayin' Are you judging?

I’m outta the game

I’ve been off it for almost a year now. Can’t say I miss it.

Lots of alcoholism in my family, leading to problems and early deaths. At present I'm on the wagon (contrary to my humorous quip below). I'll have a beer when with my kids out bowling or shooting pool, wine at Thanksgiving, occasionally 'beer and pizza'. I can take it or leave it alone.

Dang, you put me on the spot.

I wouldn't say that drinking in and itself is a sin. As we know, the bible says that drunkenness is a sin, and of course it's possible to drink and not get drunk. HOWEVER, (here's the controversial part where I'll probably catch a lot of flak) I do strongly believe that Christians shouldn't drink at all. I have many reasons for that... I don't want to write a whole essay here. But I've put a lot of thought into this, and long story short, I believe that as it says in 1 Cor 10:23, "All things are permissible, not all things are beneficial."

There's a lot more I could say about this, but it's a topic that could be a thread of its own.
Muslims are adamant about not drinking or doing drugs. Probably among the most pious of religions when it comes to that. Many of them won't even drink coffee or the same reasons they won't drink alcohol.

No wonder they are so angry.

At my age, I only drink the high class stuff. What the heck, I have the scratch.

I steer straight to the top shelf. Budweiser, the King of Beers.

Crown Russe, the vodka of Russian royalty.

King Solomon (which I haven't seen around lately)- the preferred vino of the richest man in the world for whom it is named.

There are about 12 of them who work in the company where I work and nothing could be farther from the truth. They are quiet and rarely complain and just do their jobs and go home. With the mainstream Americans both white and black in my workplace they are always bitching and moaning and bickering about everything both inside and outside of work. Power one guy who actually talks favorably about assassinating Trump and other conservatives is a white Christian. So there's that

There are certainly places in the world where there are angry Muslims. That has more to do with the territory than the religion.

Many years ago when they were no cell phones and some people had those 800 and 900 MHz cordless phones in their homes, I had a police scanner that was capable of hearing conversations on those phones. One day I had my scanner on and I picked up the conversation of a Muslim woman down the street. I didn't plan it that way I just had my scanner on and it inadvertently picked her up. It took me a few minutes to realize who it was. And that woman had nothing but beautiful things to say about other people. You truly made me Misty I'd listening to her because most people are contemptuous scum compared to that.

Well there are certainly some examples of angry tribes who happen to be Muslim in this world our Western media also blows those things way out of proportion on purpose. Our military industrial complex has wars they need to justify. Drawing on the old stigmas of the Crusades is one way to do that.

Most Muslims are just waiting for their leadership and their religion to deliver what they believe to be theirs, the promised Abrahamic blessings. They believe that the descendants of Isaac have no right to them and that they are the true heirs.

All the Abrahamic religions generally have very parallel views that way. And there are individuals who are exceptions in all of them.
