I actually think it’s a good sign that the nominee of a major party felt like they had to come to the Libertarian convention to beg for votes, and I don’t see anything wrong with inviting them. A public conference is still a private event normally on private property. In terms of free speech it is no difference.

I think it's safe to say that if someone voted for Trump then they want Trump to win that election, so yes, the vote count is what matters to that. But it doesn't follow that if I were to vote for Trump then somebody else gets to tell me that I have some approval of Trump beyond what I say that I have with any credibility. My intent may not matter in any grand sense, but it matters in terms of what other people get to tell me about what I think.
