The US keeps kicking hornet’s nests around the globe and wondering why it continues getting stung.

The latest example: Pakistan’s once beautiful Swat Valley has been turned into a battlefield. Last week, Pakistan finally bowed to Washington’s angry demands to unleash its military against rebellious Pashtun tribesmen of Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP) – who are collectively mislabeled "Taliban" in the west. They are not the Afghan Taliban, but it’s convenient for the western media and Pentagon to slap that label on them.

Yeah, blame the US. Just forget about the Taliban. They have nothing at all to do with it.

The article was about the U.S. attacking and urging Pakistan's government to attack a tribe called the Pashtun who are being incorrectly labelled as the Taliban.

So...the media portrays them as the "taliban" but they are just a "harmless tribe"? or were they causing trouble? But either way i agree...its pakistans problem to deal with any tribes or terrorists in their country. We have too many problems with middle eastern affairs and our economy. But i wouldn't say insisting pakistan to do something about a group of ppl that may pose a threat is a bad thing. Id rather the U.S manipulate a countries government so they would do what we told them...instead of the U.S. doing it ourselves. So you could say there are some positives and negatives.

We don't need to be manipulating other governments at all, we need to mind our own business.

And why is that? Manipulating other governments is a cheap and easy way to get things done. And as of right now, cheap and easy, is our only option.

Look throughout history at all of the great empires that have fallen. The Romans, persians, ottoman. All fell apart because they were too agressive. And why were they too agressive? Because they wanted to control countries "physically". And the only way to do that was to go to war with them. And I dont care how strong your empire is and your army is. Having to go to war everytime you want to take over someone takes a toll on your country.

So the U.S. wants things done in the Middle East...so they can prevent further wars in that area. But we have fought the war over their for 8 years now. And we are tired of it. But we still have to find a way to keep some sort of peace over there. The best way to do that is manipulate the stronger governments and convince them to eliminate certain enemies.

Hhmmm...sounds like a good idea.

Because intervening in the affairs of other countries makes them resent us.

Here's an idea, how about leaving other countries alone? Wasn't one of the main reasons you guys left Britain was to be masters of your own destiny without interference from foreign powers?

Wrong...we left Britain to have our own government...our own economy...our own religions...our own laws. Britain was controlling everything about us and we didn't like it.

In the situation brought up in the thread...America was manipulating Pakistan. Controlling and Manipulating are two different things.

Let me explain it too you....Manipulation is when you influence someone to do something, or trick them into doing something, you want them to do. Controlling someone is making them do something simply by force. The two are very different but similar at the same time. Back to the thread though...

America will never leave other countries alone and mind to its own business. And its a damn good thing they don't either.

Imagine if we had never gotten involved in the European campaign in WWII. Europe would, possibly, be under the control of one country right now (Germany). So maybe it is a good idea to keep our eyes open and solve a problem when we see one.

But, since America has been at war for 8 years everyone is sick of it. It seems we are making no progress and our economy worsens every day. So the government has resolved to talking to other governments and using them as pawns..like a chess game.

You people are so gulible. It's ALWAYS about the money. Remember the oil and gas pipelines coming outta russia? through afgahnistan? We did not NEED to invade afgahnistan to get bin ladin in the first place. That could have been handled by special ops and a handfull of sattilites. Oil and our obsession to protect these international companies is why we are there.

Makes perfect sense. Invading Afgahnistan just scared him away. I feel like the military should follow through with there invasion in Iraq and set up military bases and use it as positioning on other middle eastern countries.

It would be the perfect location to zero in on Iran and other countries...ecspecially if we controlled afghanistan too.

We need to start preparing for a larger war than what is at stake. The sooner we start preparing for war the more advantage we will have when it comes. Just an opinion tho...

Common is right. Every one can for see the war coming...we just turn our head away and pretend we don't see it.

Russia is starting to get back on track, North Korea is testing nuclear missles, China will assist North Korea and Russia in anything they do. Israel and Pakistan can't get along. Nor India and Pakistan for that matter. The U.S is still in Iraq and Afghanistan. What's next? Who will make the first move?

Certainly not Russia. It's not good timing and they need some more time to get their economy going. Possibly North Korea...but im just not seeing it. They have been up to some tricky stuff, but they haven't shown signs of attacks on other countries. The U.S shouldn't do anything...unless they completly change their historical war record and actually make the first attack.

Im betting on Pakistan and Israel. Israel doesn't like put up with any shit and Pakistan is talking big stuff right now. But can Pakistan defeat Israel? No...they will need an ally, and the only one i can think of is maybe Russia. But as I said they aren't completly ready. So for now now one is strong enough or ready to attack anybody.

That's why the U.S. needs to start planning. Get military bases and air strips built in Iraq. Use them as a key location. Talk to turkey about becoming good allies. Anything that may help the U.S. later on may help.

Destroying Pakistan to Make It Safe by Eric Margolis

Journalists who distort the facts to fuel their own political agenda make me sick, and this guy, Eric Margolis, is no exception.

He seems to think the Taliban is limited to Afghanistan, completely ignoring the fact that the Taliban movement originated in Pakistan! And Pakistan is where the Islamic madrassas that indoctrinate the young and recruit them into the Taliban are located in their hundreds. He also fails to mention that the Taliban is made up of predominantly ethnic Pashtuns from both sides of the border, trying instead to convince us that the war is against Pashtun tribesmen. What a pile of dishonest garbage!

There is nothing new in Pak forces fighting the Taliban in Swat. The Swat Valley was taken over by Mullah Maulana Fazlullah and his Taliban militia by force and terrorism. They seized town after town and imposed the Taliban rule and regulations in the captured areas, collected taxes and ran kangaroo courts, forced Islamic dress, closed girl’s schools, destroyed music shops, barber shops. He was able to seize and then operated an FM radio station spouting Islamic ideology. The Mullah even announced he was now the governor of Swat. Twice before, Pak forces have tried to regain control in Swat and twice they failed, due to wrong tactics and a lack of will.

What this journo also fails to tell us, is that the Pakistan Taliban is now more of a threat than the Afghan Taliban. They have a hit list of federal ministers and of politicians in Pakistan who they want to kill. They want to destabilise the Pakistani state, and they realise that it’s a better target than Afghanistan. The extent of the suicide bombings in the wider Pakistan are testament to that.

Sorry, but this guy's article is a pile of shit that, I suspect, has been written for political motive rather than honest reporting.
