They are pumping up the hysteria so that when he announces, they can "unleash the crack-in (addicts)", so to speak. Hell, they may even begin Saint Floyd di Fentanyl marches pre-emptively. They are scared spitless that he can't be stopped by any LEGAL maneuvers and they don't want to out themselves publicly by using overt illegal means against him.
