You know what is super duper low cost to the public? Not eating like a killer whale.

The average American consumes more than 3,600 calories daily – a 24% increase from 1961, when the average was just 2,880 calories. Consequently, guidelines suggest the average woman only needs to consume between 1600 and 2000 a day and the average man between 2000 and 3000 per day. I monitor what I eat and consume roughly 2600 per day, less if I'm trying to cut my body fat a bit. I also don't eat junk food, drink soda, and only occasionally consume alcohol.

Given this reality, it's no wonder why so many Americans are stomping and waddling around like a herd of hippos. Obesity is not a disease, it's a lifestyle choice and the government should not be subsidizing a magic pill to fix a problem that requires a simple change in one's own behavior.

Broadly agree .

But the suggestion at least throws a starter kit to the porkers .
Most people are ultra lazy and unlikely to last more than one work out or a single twenty yard dash .
The Musk route at least will get some up and running , and a few even transformed

2000 calories is too much for those who sit on their butts all day. Years ago a nutritionist researched the men who ran races through the mountains of Peru for days on end. Their only fare was cornmeal cakes sweetened with honey, which provided them with about 1100 calories per day. The men were lean and fit although slightly smaller in frame than European men.

Companies with large office employee bases could build or lease "Park and Walk" parking lots some distance from their plants. Close parking lots could be opened in bad weather, and could be used as outdoor lunch break areas as well. A few basketball hoops and tennis backboards might be installed as well. A coworker and I used to play tennis on our lunch hour.

Pimping for ubiquitous medication over making healthy lifestyle choices isn't very wise.

But health recommendations are the racket that RFK jr. is being nominated for, so Musk would do well to get back in his lane.
RFKjr should focus on health fundamentals which should include eating more organically produced foods. This reduces the toxin problem. A larger market will lower the cost of organically produced foods as well. Changing the mindset of Americans regarding foods is better than relying on government regulations to make foods safer. If people think that the government will solve their food related health problems for them they will sit on their asses and do nothing for themselves.

While that is true, Taz, and mostly a result of the food the FDA promotes and permits as the "American diet" (pizza, hamburgers, cola, etc.), many people are simply overweight no matter how they eat (unless they literally STARVED themselves) due to irregular metabolisms or metabolic rates in need of adjustment.

Who gave us the "food pyramid" that encouraged people to load up on simple carbs?

Just eating more whole foods will be a great help.

Hot Pockets and boxed mac-n-cheez aren't "food".

Eat Right, Exercise Daily & DIE ANYWAY.

I would rather die at 55 having lived my life the way I prefer than live to 90 eating rabbit food and granola every day; thank you very much.

Glp inhibitors make an area of ones brain feel full. Obese people tend to have this area of the brain, malfunction....doesn't ever make them feel full.... The medicine gives that area of the brain, the proper chemical composition to make that happen....

Dr, Sanjay Gupta had a documentary on it on CNN....it makes bodies produce more insulin for diabetics too, and a few other things that help diabetics produce the insulin they need....

I have dined with overweight people for decades. One thing they all have in common is that they eat fast then go for a second helping. They are finished with the second helping before I finish my first helping. That said slender people also eat too fast, but they rarely go for the second helping.

Hard to lose weight when one sits on their ass all day contemplating their navel. We also suffer from a lack of mental activity. Ask any student if studying makes you hungry. An active brain uses lots of calories. Sadly, we have machines to do our work and computers and AI to do our thinking. All that's left for us to do is...eat, drink, and be merry...and get fat.

Heh, I personally just thought GLPs were just like diet pills, but after watching Dr. Sanjay Gupta's documentary on it.... It enlightened me.

But to your point, eating fast and going for seconds, is according to him, with evidence, that the receptor we all have notifying our brain that we are full, has a malfunction or imbalance in these grossly obese people...or most of them.

The problem is, these people have to take the Glp inhibitor the rest of their lives, in order not to regain most of the weight they lost while on it..... Great for the pharmaceutical companies!

Fat people don't wait for the 'receptor' to kick in. It is said that it takes 20 minutes or more. Maybe they should eat more food that requires chewing then take the time to properly chew it. Perhaps someone should do a study on that.
